I’m still trying to reason why the people that we voted into office voted to allow American “citizens” (sorry Seattle) to be arrested, charged, and imprisoned indefinitely without trail or......

I think we're missing a large part of what the letter writer said because of his perceived high level of paranoia. What you should understand is that all of those fantasy level surveillance technics are actually possible these days and are now practical. Given this administrations past performance, do you feel safe with these people having the ability to monitor your every communication? Personally, I feel there is much to much room for abusing my rights of privacy which Edward Snowden brought out at the cost of his American citizenship. Like

Good intentions gone wrong.

To stop terrorists, the gov't needs the power to collect intelligence.

But the gov't does not know who are the terrorists. Some believe Tea Party members are potential terrorists....as witnessed by the current administration.

So, they justify collecting all information, then, when something looks suspicious, they can see all the people connected to that.

But, because the volume of data is so vast, the gov't must allow access to that data by thousands of people.

Some of those people are corrupt. They might sell selected data for cash to a large corporation or foreign gov't, or secretly funnel data to their favored political party.

Your privacy is already dead.....now, we must fight against the potential damage that may come.

Enigma, I guess I worded that badly. What I was trying to say was I'm not going to tow the party line for either party. For instance, I am against abortion but not gay marriage and no matter where the left or right stands on those issues, it doesn't change my beliefs.

Too bad George decided to use movies (though some were based on true stories) to make his point when there is so much in the news that would do a better job. The bottom line is that the government no longer belongs to the people, it's the other way around. We've been played and most people just continue to play along. The trick was to get people to side with a party. Once they did that, then that party could do whatever it wanted and its supporters would cheer. Both parties have been building this big government that can and will control every aspect of your life. Until more people are willing to stand against this expansion of government power, even when 'their party' is in control, we will never stop this. People need to wake up and take the country back because it will soon be too late.

Capricorn1,"Frankly I don't let opinions by either side of the aisle influence my beliefs."

Really? That would make you closed minded. The whole point of discussion is to get information so that you can make the right choices. I hope you don't mean this the way it sounds, but it would make you just the same as more than half of the people who post here. Sad but true.

Steelerfan you're correct and I try and look at both sides of any situation before I form an opinion and many times I may change my opinion. I have been both a registered democrat and republican at different times of my life. Now I choose not to be affiliated with either party and I have views that could be considered left and right. Liberals feel I am against them, when actually, the current administration happens to be democrat and I don't agree with a lot of their policies. Just as I didn't agree with many policies under Bush.

Capricorn1: 'Frankly I don't let opinions by either side of the aisle influence my beliefs.'

To an extent I agree but other befiefs should make you stop and think about your own. In some cases, your beliefs may be wrong and you may need to change, don't you agree? Our country was founded on a 'Great Compromise' and we seem to have lost that spirit in recent years.

Tgrammie Reeder doesn't like me because I call him out to provide facts for some of his comments. For instance yesterday when I asked for facts regarding his opinion that the clown incident was racially motivated, I never heard from him again.

By the way if you don't want someone listening in on your phone conversation why do you own a cell phone then? Anyone and everyone around you can hear your conversation.

What is a conspiracy theory is that you think the government is out to get you because you are talking on your phone. You really do need to get that tin foil clothing so the government can't get you.

So Mr. Zook you were driving and talking on your cellphone at the same time.

Did you know the government can see you through your cell phone? Your computer? your TV? A designer has made outfits for someone like you It is made of tinfoil to disrupt scanners and scanning. You should seriously purchase a few of his designs.
