McCain: Japanese Hanged for water boarding-CBS News

You can argue all you want, but it is ,& has been considered torture for centuries. No amount of trying to reclassify it as something else will change that fact. IMO, Anyone who condones or tries to gloss over it for political reasons is disgusting. I do not know where you went to school, or what you were taught, But I was taught that disgusting animals did this(torture) to our men, and that Americans were better than that. What the Right wing has done in its quest to protect "W" is nothing short of disgusting & contemptible. Maybe you want to defend it, & feel like some sort of "Mighty" American for it, but personally I give more respect my dogs vomit than someone who defends torture. Now go back to calling me names & insulting me, because frankly that is all you got. I would call you disgustingly pathetic, but I believe my old teachers said it better. What a miserable thing you are.

Bobbie, It was not a false example(do not know where you are getting your info) he was sentenced to 15 years hard labor.

ALSO A June 21,1968 Washington post photo of a U.S. solder supervising a waterboarding resulted in a court marshal 2 months later.

ALSO- In 1983, a Texas(why does this not surprise me) Sheriff one James Parker & 3 of his deputies were convicted of it.

This was literally about 90 seconds of Google work. In your court.

1st off, my hats off to a very well written post, with refreshingly articulated points.

Your thoughts are well thought out. Torture does bring out a huge range of emotional thought. I for one will be the first to(not one of my proudest shortcomings) admit that if I got my hands on someone who could give me answers to keep my family from harm, or death, that what I would do to him/her to get that information is not fit discussion. OK, That being said, what I would do on a personal level, and what we as a civilized society deem to be acceptable are two different animals. Discussion about what is being taught in school is often a subject on many posted boards, I was taught that America does not torture, uncivilized animals in other parts of the world do, But, WE as Americans ARE BETTER THAN THAT. And I for one think that we ARE

Yea, yea, same old stupid comments to try to rock some back on their heels. BE BIG ENOUGH to stand behind your "principles". You & people like you dragged the USA through the sewer, and "religiously" defend it rather then be civilized, & IMO, Christian. All for a political party. disgusting, & Pathetic.

"First of all, I didn't set a red line," said Obama. "The world set a red line. The world set a red line when governments representing 98 percent of the world's population said the use of chemical weapons are [inaudble] and passed a treaty forbidding their use, even when countries are engaged in war. Congress set a red line when it ratified that treaty. Congress set a red line when it indicated that in a piece of legislation entitled the Syria Accountability Act that some of the horrendous things happening on the ground there need to be answered for. So, when I said in a press conference that my calculus about what's happening in Syria would be altered by the use of chemical weapons, which the overwhelming consensus of humanity says is wrong, that wasn't something I just kind of made up. I didn't pluck it out of thin air. There's a reason for it."

cont.

"would it matter that family might have gone shopping that day in that very mall, or would it suffice you to know that there are human beings in that mall?

You see, the clear issue is that the subject of torture evokes a range of emotions and unless we are involved, it is easy to say how we would feel.

Then, we have the types of torture, that's an entirely different subject matter. Myself, I think I would rather be almost drowned over and over and over again, then have body extremities cut off, slowly with the most absurd and wicked edged items, not necessarily clean cuts. Go back to the dark ages, and the torture methods were cruel and almost unimaginable. The components of torture would lend to objectivity, until a loved one, or our country, are at stake.

Wow, has this discussion escalated. It happens to all of us however, an argument seems to never end up on the same path it started on.

I only wish to touch on one subject. Torture, what is it? The subject certainly hits a nerve with everyone. For the arch defenders of torture, I would suggest to you that if it were your son/daughter captured by enemies, you wouldn't believe torture to be acceptable, given the threat for them. If it were applied to save your son/daughter, now the advocate becomes the sympathizer. There is not one of us, who can state with absolute certainty how we would feel, should we be confronted with the sphere of t is unfortunate that torture exists and I'm fairly positive that none of us wishes it to be the only remedy in a war/terror/hostage situation. If we had in our custody, a citizen from another country that held viable information of suspects who might be preparing to bomb the largest mall in America, cont.

Cricket, Waterboarding is torture-Period. You can call it enhanced interrogation all you want, but it is torture. People have been tried, & convicted of it in the USA-Period. Be a big enough person to stand by your opinions/convictions if you agree with it.

Cap., What ever gave you the idea that I feel that I should be serving the President, or any other elected official? As to questioning the government, I screamed every chance I got when this Great nation was dragged down into the sewers with torture. It was done in your name, my name, my sons name, & every other Americans name.(BTW, What is your take on that issue?) NO, IMO, the difference between you and me is that I try my best to see this nation as ALL Americans in it together. Difference of opinion is one thing, but this constant US verses THEM in every area is IMO dividing America. I see people with different political views, the Right sees nothing but enemies with hatred.
