Stop talking nonsense, John! Our President is calling for common sense gun control, and that means strict background checks so that criminals and people with mental health issues cannot purchase a lethal weapon. How on God's green Earth could anyone with half an ounce of sense be against that..?? We also have no need whatsoever for assault weapons like AR-15s, 50 caliber anti-tank guns, AK-47s or AK-74s, M4 carbines, PS90s, etc. They have absolutely no legal use other than getting your rocks off by shooting them at a range. Any reasonable person would agree that the made up "right" to own and use a military grade assault rifle does not trump the right of the entire society to walk the streets without fear of being slaughtered. Stop the right wing extremist gun crazy talk. Enough is enough.

When did the President say that people could not own guns?

"On March 15, 1989, less than two months after taking office, Bush temporarily banned, by executive order, the importation of various semi-automatic assault weapons. That ban was extended a few weeks later to include additional firearms, and was made permanent by Bush in July, 1989."

"President Obama should not have been so nice to the turd partiers. He showed everyone what a fine, educated man looks like after eight years of the opposite and he gets obstruction in return. The right wing extreme need to stop showing the hate of Jesus, after all, they follow him right???" - SilverFeather

Be patient. Eventually, all o' the oldy/moldy Republicans...who are STILL tryin' to get pay-back (for Nixon getting the ol' heave-HO!)...will die-off.

You'll have to excuse enigma. He/she (actually) believes everyone can hear the "voices" in his/her head.

Be patient. I'm guessing he/she has a delayed-response to Thorazine.

My guess is we're being "treated" to a "Home Alone"-type situation...or, quite-possibly a home-school experiment.

I think the consistent trashing of Native Americans SilverFeather is referring to is me. And yes it did happen on here to me and my family.

But I come from "Proud People" and ethnic slurs are something we have dealt with for a long time, but we rise above it.

So SilverFeather, for my sake please no childish name calling or feeding into peoples games on here, that's not who we are you are only bringing yourself down to their level of hate.

Everyone have a nice day, I have a train to catch I'm heading back home today.

Washington (CNN) – With the stroke of a pen Thursday, President Barack Obama gave himself and his wife Secret Service protection for the rest of their lives.

The new law, which passed the House and Senate in December, designates that all former U.S. presidents who served after January 1, 1997, along with their spouses, receive protection from the Secret Service for their entire lifetimes – meaning former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura are also covered. The law also stipulates that children of presidents receive protection until the age of 16.

Lifetime government-provided security for former presidents was the law of the land until 1997, when Congress passed legislation limiting Secret Service protection to ten years after leaving office.

The 1997 law said any president serving before January 1, 1997 would still receive the lifelong protection. That means with the law signed Thursday, every former president – Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George
