September 13, 2013

The Keystone Central School Board voted last week to allow their full-time district police officer to carry a gun in the district's schools. Good for them....

What a terrible and knee-jerk reaction by the Sun Gazette editorial board! Do you even bother to THINK about the ramifications of your editorials, or just blurt out the first thing that comes into your mind? MORE guns in schools? That is ludicrous! It can only lead to more bloodshed. We need LESS guns in schools and LESS guns in general. Do you realize that even for professionally trained law enforcement officers it is very difficult to discharge their weapons without unintentionally harming others? Now what do you think will happen if school personnel who at most will receive a weekend or two of "training" will do? In August 2012, diring an incident where an armed nutjob starting shooting outside the Empire State building, EVERY SINGLE innocent bystander injured was shot by police on accident! Not one was harmed by the shooter. In the heat of the action, more bullets flying are NOT what we need. Please rethink your position....our children's lives are at stake.

So Jeff if your kid is ever gunned down in school because the teacher or resource cop hasn't no gun I want you to revisit this post of yours

And to answer your question radioactive if the kid flips out and pulls a gun yes then shoot him so where is your question actually leading? The cop isn't just going to shoot a kid unarmed. Duh I don't know why any somewhat intelligent person would even ask such a simple question.

You wanna be liberals are a joke. Do you think our kids security doesn't warrant protection. As I remember the new town kid who did the shooting was fully funded by his mother which happened to be a school teacher who obviously didn't understand her own kid but was teaching others

Arguably one of the greatest minds of the 20th century, Albert Einstein, stated that "You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war". His words still ring true today.

School violence has been a reality throughout history. I am all for firearms and other weapons being used as tools for recreation, hunting, and zombie deterrence, but more guns does not equal safer schools. I encourage you to rethink your stance on this matter.

"We seem to have no money for teachers, but have it for this. Sad world we live in."

Sorry, I believe the safety our children is a tad more important than a pay raise for teachers. And you're right, it is sad, but school violence is a reality.
