Will there be a World War 3?

September 17, 2013

Will dropping missiles on Syria lead us into another World War? Should we help Syria? Are we following in the footsteps of the Vietnam War? These are troubling question....

You (actually) believe we need ANOTHER Generation of younger-people...dreading a Third World War, Ms. Temple????

We had a HUGE group, during the '50s...PRACTICING for one...and, during the Reagan Years...MY son had asked what the chances were ('cause there were people who felt the "need" to resurrect the concept)...and, you're anxious to "treat" a whole, NEW Generation, to such an absurd concept??!!!

we can't stop those using such methods for killing. We may attempt so with a small show of force, but those people have been killing each other, neighbors, friends and religious others for centuries. We won't stop that. We did miss the chance to demonstrate some level of resolve and strength.

Will dropping missiles on Syria lead us into another World War? -Ida

No, dropping the missiles was/is just this Administration's way of sending a message to the Syrian government. "We don't approve of your methods. We know we can't remove your government or destroy your chemical weapons capabilities by doing so, but we thought we should send you a message. Now go back to using conventional weapons to kill tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children."

"And oh yeah, Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan attacked us on 9/11/2001. So, who exactly were we retaliating against, may I ask?" - Francine

We attacked Afghanistan because that is where Osama Bin Laden was-DUH! We attacked Iraq because we believed they had WMD'S and right after 9/11 we could not tolerate that. I believe both attacks were in line with what was going on at the time.I think we have strayed too far from that train of thought today. We are seen as weak and we will be attacked again because of it. How quickly you forget apparently! Iran is the real target we should be focusing our military power on. Once they have a nuke, world war 3 is a possiblity. Look what they have said about Israel. Remember, they hate us and everything about us. They wont stop until we stop them, go ahead and bury your head, it wont work.

All the wrangling over should we or shouldn't we has become a lost opportunity. We are dragging out the debate. There is no decisiveness from anyone in the US. We will be****ned if we do and****ned if we don't. There is no win in this crisis.

Chuck is right about that. What many don't see is that it was a no-win from the start. This is a civil war with both sides being evil. Which evil side should we be on? How about leaving it to them? As soon as Obama opened his mouth, he put us in a bad situation with no good way out. That's a lesson I learned from my father, "Sometimes the best thing to say, is nothing." It's too bad that Obama never learned that lesson. If he had, we might not be between a rock and a hard place in Syria. Now we have only two choices: Either do nothing and look weak, or take a symbolic military action and look weak and stupid. Thank you Mr. Obama.

Peeps- Rehashing justification for wars we've fought and are still fighting is getting boring. We did what we did and hopefully be getting our military back home. Now, this President seems to have a plan to remove dictators in the Middle East and replace them with terrorists and Sharia law. A backdoor plan to further the Muslim Caliphate by the Muslim Sympathizer-In-Chief.

Francine, you say "Neither Iraq or Afghanistan attacked us on 9/11"... well, I don't remember German planes being at Pearl Harbor, either, but we declared war on them as well...

We were attacked by Muslim extremists, not by Afghanistan. I believe we should’ve declared war against Muslim extremists and made it known that we’d go after them no matter where they were. We’ve paid an enormous price in lives and wealth with little success to show for it.

Underwood- They live somewhere, that is where we need to be. These countries had been put on notice about this when bush addressed it, hence they should be more careful what they allow, or pay the price. Remember, they (afghanistan) allow people to shoot girls in the head because they want to go to school, they dont even meet my criteria of being a country when that kind of ___t is allowed! We may never have "sucess" ,we are dealing with extremists who make no sense, they are savages who want to live in the stone age, dont give then any credit. You contradict yourself in your statement.

Leaningright, I can’t disagree with your post. I shouldn’t have said Muslim extremists, but rather Muslim terrorists that have declared war on us. I don’t believe it should be our purpose to go to war against any country that institutes laws contrary to what we believe is right. That’s not to say all societies are morally equal or any of that nonsense, we just can’t go to war against all of them.
