Senior services

September 19, 2013

Senior transportation is a valuable and needed service and drivers are very courteous — however, some drive too wildly to suit a lot of people, even if the service provided is sent off to another......

My husband has a saying "You don't make jokes at other peoples expense".

Chuck, I think the problem is many times it's difficult to recognize sarcasm in written form if the writer isn't careful on how he presents it.-Capricorn1 This is quite true, I see some put "LOL" behind their statements, or something similar. Some also get to know other posters(somewhat) & can recognize wit being interjected. There are also some looking for any opening to ambush/attack the other. If those on the mentally stable "right" side would take a open minded, truthful look at the opinions of the mentally stable "left", the problem would simply evaporate. NOTE--This was a very simple attempt at humor--Switch "conservative" & "left" to suit your preference.

We have to live yesterday over and over again until Eric gets it right.

Ms. Crayton, if you don't like the way something is done, contact the agency. Your letters to the editor do nothing to further your agenda, but they are amusing and make you look like a loon.

Chuck, I think the problem is many times it's difficult to recognize sarcasm in written form if the writer isn't careful on how he presents it. Most of us aren't English majors and the sarcasm sometimes gets lost when trying to convey it into words. And since we can't read each other's minds or actually physically see each other, we often don't know if someone is joking or being sarcastic unless it's blatantly obvious. This is true for communicating with any type of social media and it often causes problems.

People like Eric and Bobie know what sarcasm is but are incapable of being sarcastic let alone telling a joke or being in on a joke. Besides no one really takes either of them seriously.

Liberals, as usual do not understand a joke.-eriklatranyi

Typical, when a conservative puts his foot in his mouth, never own up to it. It's always "it was a joke", "they don't get satire", "I was taken out of context", etc., this from the party of "taking responsibility for yourself". Quite pitiful. Erik, if you feel a certain way, state it, & defend your stance. If someone disagrees with you, either stand your ground, or admit you stated something that was less than correct/perfect. A big enough person can do this, but to always blame the other, is IMHO, immature at best. JMO

Ms Crayton writes complaint after complaint. I was just imagining what her husband must endure!

All of his comments are shameful.

How do you bash a lil old lady that wishes the driver of the Senior van would obey the posted speed limit?

Seriously? How do you do that?

And Eric, is there something wrong with you? For real. Your comment is shameful.

Maybe when you get older you move slower so everything else seems to move faster ?

Driving through town Gram used to say "The speed LIMIT is 35 but that doesn't mean you have to go that fast." and when she drove (which she hated and wouldn't if she could find somebody to drive her where she wanted to go), her husband used to say 'she doesn't HAVE accidents, she CAUSES accidents." She would never, ever drive on the beltway, only city streets, even if it took twice as long to get to where she was going.

Sorry to inform you Stephanie but more and more states are raising the speed limit to 70mph on highways and interstates. They say it is safer.

When I was younger I used to drive my Nan-Nan(granma) around to her appointments and such. She would always comment on how fast I was was driving, saying that I drove WAY to FAST!! And that was only 25-30 mph. in town. She probably would have lost it if we ever took the belt way.

Yea Grammie, it gets really frustrating because she treats me totally different than my other siblings. But I know it's because I'm right her caring for her and she feels safe venting on me. That's why I take letters from folks such as Stephanie with a grain of salt, I understand where she is coming from and she may not have someone close to release her frustrations on.

I think you're right Gunny. For a person to go from being independent thier whole lives to needing assistance with everything it's got to be very frustrating. My Grandpa drove us batty in his old age but I miss him terribly.

Tgrammie, I couldn't agree more! LoL I help care for my elderly mother and it does try the patience. But it makes it easier when I remember that she had to put up with the same thing and worse from me during my childhood years. I believe Stephanie may just be lonely and needs someone to vent to.

When my Grandpa got too old to drive, he would take the bus to Dr. Appts. if we were working and couldn't take him. He got kicked off the bus for arguing with the driver because the driver wouldn't stop at the Dr.'s office door.Older folks get cranky in thier old age, even the ones we love.

Perhaps Ms. Crayton would feel better if seniors were shuttled about in hay wagons. It would calm their nerves. LOL going 70 in a 65 zone is hardly dangerous.

Seriously, be happy there are services to take people out and about when they can no longer drive themselves!
