Put up toll booth

September 21, 2013

It’s funny. Williamsport city employees can live outside the city limits. Then receive compensation, benefits, vacation, pension....

Yes! A dome! What could go wrong?-JerryfromRI

But where is the money for all of the "Windex" & paper towels going to come from?? Maybe just raise the "exit" fee a tad? BTW, If someone did not have the "exit fee", would it then be that they were being "held against their will" by the city?? LOL-Scott

I don't have a problem with city workers living outside of Williamsport, I don't like the fact that some that live outside of the city limits use the cities vehicle's to travel back and forth from work to their homes, at the taxpayers expense.

I think this fence idea deserves more consideration.

PROS:

A security fence around Williampsort will ensure that all of those leaving the city pay the new tolls.

The Codes Inspector can i.d. all persons entering the city at new checkpoints. (As we already know, simply identifying who is living in the city will cause crime to plummet to zero).

Creates booming industry for merchants who sell fence repair products.

Guarantees Williamsport a new spotlight on the world stage!

CONS:

None!

Let's do this!

Jerry and Chuck, where in this letter is he talking about illegals? I'm pretty sure he is speaking of the police and a few others that choose to live outside of the city because of all the recent comments regarding our Police Chief not living in Williamsport. As far as I'm concerned, they can live wherever the heck they want as long as they are where they are suppose to be, when they are suppose to be.

I can't speak for all Libs/Progressives...but, I can't imagine a fence would encourage that-much-more respect for newly-arrived T-Baggers.

Another 'illegal' letter and how to deal with it. Maybe we should build a fence too!

What's with the letters today? I think they have imbibed in too much of the whacky- weed.

Frank, If they work in the city, why wouldn't they collect their benefits? Now if they worked outside the city and were collecting city benefits, then you would have something to complain about.

I really hope the toll booth idea was a joke, but with that first line, I wouldn't bet on it.

Frank, this has to be the most inane letter you have written so far. Comedy is hard and you should really leave it up to the professionals.

"The city of Williamsport needs a toll booth in every entrance to the city." - Francis P. Kelley Jr.

Surely, you jest!!!

All o' the locals would assume those booths are entrances to another "scary" new-business....and, DRIVE RIGHT-ON BY!!!

Can you (even) imagine how many missing-person reports that could generate??!!!

Where is the money going to come from to pay the additional Officers to do the searches and the toll booth attendants? What about the folks who live outside the city but work in Wmspt. that would have to pay a toll every day to leave? You might want to re-think this one.....

I a sure tolls and TSA-like searches will do wonders for downtown's growth!

First we have a suggestion to put up no drug dealers signs, and now this. Let's hope these folks are running for City Council.
