They still believe

September 23, 2013

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 1,000 times, then I would have to be a Democrat who still believes a single word that comes out of President Obama's mout....

You can stop reading at the word "Democrat." The Williamsport Brain Trust strikes again. Hopefully a Liberal will respond with an equally condescending, sarcastic piece of tripe of their own. It just gets so boring after a while.

AC - where was the sarcasm or condescension in this letter? What was untrue about it?

"Fool me 1,000 times, then I would have to be a Democrat....." isn't condescending, insulting or sarcastic? Like I said, I can't wait for some Liberal to say, "Fool me 1,000 times, then I would have to be a Republican because....."

ALL Democrats are this way. ALL Republicans are that way. If you don't agree with me on this one thing then you must disagree with me about ALL things, and you're an idiot because of it.

Yawn.

AmericanCitizen, You are so bored with this, yet you have half of the comments. What's wrong with this picture. The only thing wrong with this letter is that the author believes that Obama's supporters don't know he lies. They know, they just don't care. No it actually goes further than that. They want him to lie because that's the only way they can accomplish what they want.

Great post AC as soon as you make it two of the local "conservative" hacks all over you. It's tiresome. The SG needs to shut these forums down. Let these people anonymously bash each other on a political forum not a website for the local paper.

Shiloh and AC, have you two ever lived anywhere besides this area? Have you ever read local newspapers from cities and towns across the country? This newspaper and comment section is no different than many others. In areas that have a pro democrat audience, you have the same types of comments, only it's the conservatives that are getting bashed. Anytime you discuss religion or politics you are going to have heated discussions. I don't care if it's in these comments, at home, at work or in a bar, these two subjects always result in heated debate. Just look at our representatives on Capitol Hill and the White House. Why would you expect anything different from the people? Like I said before, if you don't like what's posted here, then simply don't read it. But don't attempt to eliminate our freedom to do so.

Example:

Obama last week:

Now, this debt ceiling — I just want to remind people in case you haven’t been keeping up — raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt; it does not somehow promote profligacy. All it does is it says you got to pay the bills that you’ve already racked up, Congress. It’s a basic function of making sure that the full faith and credit of the United States is preserved.”

Obama in 2006:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Over the past 5 years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is ‘‘trillion’’ with a ‘‘T.’’ That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China

I am sorry but it matters not what the audience is made up of, conservatives and liberals and any other political ideology will be bashed in a public forum. It is called difference of opinion and sometimes it can be bruttal. Some people can handle it. What does happen is people will pile on in the bashing. I believe this to be the objection that is being stated.

And it happens in Washington and in all social media across this country. It doesn't mean the people of this area are just a bunch of hicks or that they should be silenced. People are free to voice their opinion and that's what the letters and these comments are for. It would be nice if everyone acted civil in their comments, but the fact of the matter is, we can't try and control the attitudes of others by attempting to silence them.

It isn't your right or freedom to post here. It's a privilege extended by the newspaper that quite honestly many of you abused and that privilege should now be revoked.

I have lived other places not that it matters.

Reeder you are exactly right. That's why that type if forum has no place attached to the communities only regular newspaper. Go to the political forums to bully each other quit embarrassing the community with your half truths, ideology, name calling and childish jabs.

Shiloh if you hate this comment section so much, why are you even participating in it? I think maybe you need to get down from your high horse and stop acting like you are more educated and better than the rest of us. The funny thing is you are doing exactly what you accuse us of doing; bashing all of us and calling us hicks for participating in this forum.

Three more years of Obama then eight more years of Clinton. When will you all learn the republican party is out of touch.

I understand your objections Shiloht but politics is very much a part of the community and it is going to be reflected in the letters to the Editor. People are going to have an opinion to those opinions expressed in the letters. Like I said it can be bruttal and people who are of one opinion will join together to drown out an opposing voice.

What I find amusing to me is when people object to my posts because they are as you describe. Even though they are piling on and bashing my point of view and I will in turn respond in kind because that is the language and tone they communicate in.

Capricorn1 you are taking this too personally and not objectively.

Shiloht is expressing her/his impression of the tone and language of the posts at this forum. I agree that they are for the most part very political in nature and very off putting. I am as guilty of that as anyone else who posts here but it is the nature of the beast when it comes to politics.

I think that Shiloht also objects to how personal the attacks will get and not to expressing an opposing opinion. It is alright to express an opinion politcally but to make outright personal denigrating attacking posts for that opinion is not acceptable.

You know the ones, liberals have a disease, a mental deficient disease that is incurable. Conservatives are mean and idiots. 'You' lack understanding and should just shut up! 'You' have no objective reasoning!

Rick, sounds like thats what you want. I don't think our country can last through Obama then 8 years of the Clintons, remember, we wont just get Hillary with that deal. I could never vote for her because of her lack of leadership and lack of responsibilty for Benghazi.God help us.
