September 21, 2013

LEWISBURG — Pennsylvanians won’t die if the pension problem isn’t addressed, or if the liquor stores aren’t privatized — but if these roads, bridges and highways aren’t fixed, that may be a differen......

If so much money wasn't wasted on road signs and replacing perfectly good guide rail, they would have monies for bridges and roads.

""That's $1 a day to drive a car," Yaw said, saying that's affordable." That may be affordable by itself but you left out the remaining costs to drive; the cost of the vehicle, gas at 3.60 a gal, insurance, etc, etc, etc. all these other costs are rising constantly. The only thing not rising is Pa workers wages which have been on the decline since 2010 by over 4%. If the Commonwealth would have spent efficiently and not wasted $ for other projects and would have done due diligence in repairs over the years, there would be more than enough funds for road and bridges to fixed and maintained. Take a little here, take a little there next thing you know taxpayers are bankrupt.

"If the tax was uncapped, it would be up to wholesalers to set the price; Yaw projected the price of gas would rise about 20 cents per gallon over a 3-year period."

This is only his "projection". How can PA have one of the highest gasoline tax in the nation and still have some of the worst roads? I agree with you Carl and looking at PennDOT's track record, I doubt throwing millions more at them will change their spending habits. It's going to take a major bridge to fail to find out where all this money has been going.

Idiot. Yaw will NEVER get another vote from me. "$1 a day to drive a car." Who do you think you're fooling, Gene? Just paid $153.00 to register my pick up truck for one year. What will that go up to nder your grand plan?

There is no need, or demand, for this new road around Shamokin Dam. Just another bridge that won't be maintained and a complete waste of money. Why not reduce spending and waste instead of digging into the taxpayer's pockets for all your pet projects? Every politician needs replaced in Harrisburg. Dems and Repubs alike.
