Proud landlord

September 24, 2013

The mayor and all city employees should be working to bring Williamsports property values up. Higher assessments means more tax dollars, more money for police and firemen, this is a no brainer....

Mim...you wonder why people don't like you or care to listen to ur opinion! You insult, name call, and act like a child! No one will EVER take you or your opinion seriously! You run on emotion! You can't or won't think smartly, rationally, or even with common sense. If someone disagrees with you you insult and act childish! Try acting like an adult and maybe just maybe people will begin to treat you with a little respect. Listen to others instead of insulting! And as for using my real name in the internet well that's just stupid! You never give out private information in the net!

lots of problems in this town, water authority policy, stealing landlords money to pay freeloaders water bills, this money could bring up our values instead of going in the water authority pocket, this landlord is sick of taking hits for the team! High % of section 8 housing located in the city, If the city is 25% of the population of the county 25% of the section 8 housing should be in the city not 70%,Lots of crime there and expense,3rd the non profits should be paying impact fees, I have been talking about impact fees since 2000.

danny girl I too spend a lot of time and money on my units, say u are tired of me making Mr. Williamsport raise my values> who is this Mr Williamsport? and when he raises my values like in Missouri Show Me! My props are a lot higher then when I bought them not because of You or Mr. Williamsport, The letter is not about that its about the perception that we live in a lower class city because our tenants have to register because of a lot of criminal activity, This brings our property values down, in perception and then on paper, It snow balls. Can u understand that landlords should stick together and u hate me because i live across the river??

Texas, I'm with you regarding this ordinance but not for the illogical reasons that Mim states. Campana needs to show the citizens some facts on how this ordinance has helped reduce crime in other cities that have it, otherwise it's a complete waste of time and money. Why he hasn't done so while trying to gain support, makes me believe he has no hard data to support his cause. He also states that the U.S. census numbers are incorrect for Williamsport and that this ordnance would reveal the true numbers in order to possibly obtain more grants for the city. I would be curious to hear how a city ordnance trumps a federal government census. I too think that steps such as increased neighborhood watch groups and other programs that Judge Butts is promoting is on the right track. The city also needs to take a more proactive role in controlling crime in government housing.

‘Dumbing down aaaaggggggaaaaaiiiiinnnnnn!” ++ I am a little slow on some things but I still don’t see how it promotes class warfare unless landlords are threatening the tenants somehow. Asking for a monthly rental check/deposit or commencing eviction proceedings would seem to do more to promote class warfare than having tenants provide the names of all the people in the home. I think the regulation is an administrative burden, added expense, and invasion of privacy that would do little to nothing to reduce crime. I believe better solutions are neighborhood watch groups, education, consoling, support groups, drug sniffing dogs patrolling the street, etc.

Dannygirl you are a testament of what a good landlord is all about. You understand your responsibilities as a landlord and you don't try pawning those responsibilities out on others. If this city had more landlords like you, we wouldn't need the ordinance that is currently under review. Thank you for doing your part!

People do not live their jobs, a city job is not 24/7, they do get down time like everyone else. They are more likely to be called in on a moments notice or to do extra duty. They don't have to live here to know what needs to be done and to communicate with residents. -Reeder

Exactly! And as long as they are where they are suppose to be, when they are suppose to be, no one has the right to tell them where they can live.

I am also a landlord and I provide rentals where I live. I am proud of my rental home and make sure that it is taken care of properly. Why would someone want to rent my property if I would not want to live in it myself. It is my responsibility to make sure that the home is in good condition and that repairs are made and thus the property value speaks for its self. I don't expect the town I live in and provide rentals to make sure that my property value remains high. That is MY RESPONSIBILITY. I am tired of hearing about it being Williamsports responsibility to ensure you have better property values when you do not even live in the City you rent in. You want local law enforcement to have to live in the city but you yourself do not want to live in the city where your properties are located at. That tells me just how invested you are in the area. It sounds to me it is more about the money than the community.

In the past, many cities did require that police and firefighters lived within the jurisdiction for all of the reasons that Mim mentions. The problem was that they were loosing many good officers to the suburban departments, because that's where they wanted to live. They learned that if you want the best people you have to attract them and the requirement to live in the city will not do that.

People won't shop here but you want people to live here and work here.

(BTW which I don't like for other reasons) If so, how is this a class warfare issue? If u are a tenant and live in Williamsport u have to register and the reason given is criminal activity, correct? so homeowners and tenants in Duboistown do not have to register? correct? only this class of people, ? Dumbing down aaaaggggggaaaaaiiiiinnnnnn!

having a financial stake in the city is a lot different then shopping in the city?? How city workers speak and address residents on a daily basis is more important then someone who drives in and buys a purse! duh!
