"Gee...I surely do hope there are significant tax-cuts...to GENERATE these funds!!!!! (I can't say exactly how that works. You'd need some Republican-input, on that one.)

Boy, are you absolutely right on this one, Jack. Cutting taxes is not always the answer. Point of fact, many times it's the problem. As in the Bush Administration's tax cuts coming at the very same time as we spent billions on an unfunded war(s)!! Absolutely impossibly idiot timing for a tax cut!" - Francine

Fortunately (for the "job-creators"), the original tax-cuts were implemented...right-BEFORE "we" decided to pull-the-pin on 2 wars!!!

What TIMING!!! Those "job-creators" must be thanking their "lucky-stars", that those nasty taxes NEVER impacted their defense-industry investments!!!!

"I take it from Yaw's support of these fee and tax increases that he feels that PenDot is already spending the money it receives wisely. -David

David, the fact that PA has one of the highest gas tax in the nation and some of the worse roads, would be a good indication of how wisely PennDot spends the money." - Capricorn1

AGREED!!! PennDot needs to build a FENCE...between PA, and the Great Lakes, to help KEEP OUT any-and-all weather (specifically, Winter-weather) that PLAYS havoc on our highways & byways!!!!!

Problem SOLVED!!!!

David, the fact that PA has one of the highest gas tax in the nation and some of the worse roads, would be a good indication of how wisely PennDot spends the money. Once this transportation bill is passed, I believe it will make PA the highest gas taxed state in the country. Not to mention the millions they received from Obama's stimulus package and the millions that counties and cities have received from Act 13 funds that are being funneled for everything but repair of roads and bridges affected by the industry.

"Also, I wonder what Grover Norquist would think of Yaw's support of fee and tax increases?" - DavidBross

I can't help but think he'd be FULLY, 100% AGAINST SUCH CONSIDERATIONS!!

AFTER ALL....he doesn't live in PA.

"The state of Pennsylvania has 4,000 structurally deficient bridges and about 10,000 miles of substandard highways.

That is not news to most state residents, who can feel every inch of the deficiencies when they drive. Quite frankly, much of Pennsylvania's road and bridge network stands out for how in need it is.

State Sen. E. Eugene Yaw, a Loyalsock Township Republican who represents much of our region, is championing a Senate bill that would change all that."

I take it from Yaw's support of these fee and tax increases that he feels that PenDot is already spending the money it receives wisely. The idea of a large government agency spending money wisely is not one of the themes that Yaw has supported in the past. Also, I wonder what Grover Norquist would think of Yaw's support of fee and tax increases?
