"I really feel bad for those who use the word incorrectly." -Linda

If this is an example of the only things you feel bad about, then you have a bright outlook on life.

"Thank you, Jane Casagrande, for your excellent article on Copular verbs and the sentence, "I feel bad" Sept. 22. Apparently only a few of us were listening in English/grammar class when it was discussed. I am so tired of hearing "I feel badly." I always want to ask them when they will feel "goodly" and tell them how sorry I am that their fingers are numb. I really feel bad for those who use the word incorrectly." - Linda Shypulefski

Aw, jeez...another example of English-challenged T-Baggery??????

Feel = verb

bad = adjective

badly = ADVERB

Any (further) questions, T-Baggers?

Here's an addendum, T-Baggers.

*

Adjective = which one, what kind, how many

ADVERB - HOW, WHEN, WHERE

*

addendum = a thing added : addition

OMG Shaman, what is you total obsession with the Tea Party all about? Give it a rest. You relate everything in life to them. I can't imagine your disappointment after the 2010 elections. You have been in mourning ever since.

That's not necessary. I'm still giving them away...ever since being "burdened" with (what seemed, to me) so many, from Elementary School English-classes.

Speaking properLY was REQUIRED, at home.

I'm sure "conservatives"/T-Baggers are trying.

They've pared-it-down to vulgarity and cursing.

Porky Limbaugh's picked-up the slack on the whole ebonics-trip.

Surely you aren't suggesting that this type of language is restricted to only conservatives. LoL Shaman, you're a hoot! I guess if need be, I would tolerate cursing compared to what Clinton had going on in the Oval Office.

The context in which use the term "T-Baggers" can be described as vulgar. You're nothing but a hypocrite, sham. No matter which way you want to spin your comments.

Competition??? I guess you hadn't noticed. We Libs/Progressives are the folks sitting-in-the-stands...eating popcorn...pointing and LAUGHING at the Republican Civil War (on the field)!!!!!

How comical, you don't (even) RECOGNIZE each-other!!! I guess that SHOULD be expected, though...seeing-as-how, half your participants are still wearing their hoods.

The problem here isn't with the form of the word, it is the wrong word. If you say that you feel bad, then bad is an adjective and describes you, in essence meaning that you feel that you are bad. If you say you feel badly, it is an adverb and means that your feelings aren't working properly. It would be more appropriate to say that you feel sad or wrong or whatever word you think describe how you feel about yourself in this situation.

That has long been on of the phrases that makes me grimace when I hear it. Of course I would not bother writing an LTE about it.

You're welcome.
