radioactive, my cars are 18 and 40 yrs old, my motorcycles are 18 and 32 yrs old, my house is 100 yrs old, my boat is 54 yrs old and the motor is 18 yrs old and yes my telephone does have a rotary dial. All of these things are admittedly old. None would be considered awesome by any stretch of the imagination, but they are still perfectly serviceable and still accomplish the jobs they were made for quite nicely. It's called living within your means and not spending money you don't have.

radioactive, could you be specific about what makes my actions irresponsible? None of my vehicles have ever been involved in any type of accident and my insurance premiums, especially on the older vehicles, are ridiculously low. What exactly makes my vehicles so unsafe? What updates and upgrades are you referring to which would make my vehicles acceptable in your opinion? As with my spending, I keep my driving within my capabilities and means.

In case you did not notice we have moved beyond the basics. Today's kids need more than the basics for the future.

It's quite-possible they DO!!

Why would you want to discourage their enthusiasm???

Why aren't you driving an Edsel? Is your computer running Windows 1.0? does your telephone have a rotary dial?" - radioactive

It's also called "settling", for what you have...and, that's your option.

If an upgraded/state-o'-the-art facility encourages young-people...especially, IN THIS DAY AND AGE...to aspire to doing as well as YOU have, for yourself...why is that a "bad"-thing?

The letter is not about the kids and education and the future it is about the taxpayers.

Would it not be cheaper to maintain one building over say two or more for the same purpose?

More money spent does not translate into better education. In fact, we don't educate children anymore, we train them. If you don't know the difference it is because you were trained and not educated. The sad part is that we're not even training them very well. Just watch and you will see. The SAT scores (or any other scores) will not increase in the WASD in four years when these kids start to graduate. This renovation was too expensive and will produce no results except that the teachers have it lots better, and the school board can brag about the great facility they built. Neither of these outcomes justifies the taxes that people are paying.

I am puzzled with the 40 year old car comment. I have two cars one is 17 years old and the other is a 2013. The 2013 is far more efficient, better made and safer than the 17 year old one. So what is the point of the comment? Sure glad we progressed in the medical field, hate to think of going to a 1950s operating room. Oh enjoy you AM radio, I will gladly listen to my Grace internet radio with no ads and annoying shock jocks. While your at it enjoy your TV content supplier while I watch TV by an internet streaming device. Continue loving the because I don't.

So Sham, I see that you agree with me. You quoted me and then used the "much like" phrase showing agreement. Maybe we could work together on bringing education back to schools.

BTW, His name is Rush. Porky is a cartoon pig. Second thought, maybe you're not the guy to talk to about education.

The fact is, the decision has been made, the new school is built and the rest is history. But instead of auctioning off the closed schools, why not take one or two of them and convert them to Day Reporting Centers? What better place to provide training, education and rehabilitation for non violent offenders than a school house.

Parents should foot the bill for these schools not taxpayers.

Education is part of promotion of general welfare. Everyone goes through an educational system, some better than others.

KrazyK,"Marion Webster needs sum spelin gramer and struktyur lesins."

It's not her fault, she went to public school.

BTW You didn't have to tell me that it was purposeful, it was obvious, a little over the top, but obvious. I am curious though, what spelling errors did you pick up in the letter?

I like Capricorn1's comment on another LTE where he suggested one of the schools be used for the Day Reporting Center, and he's right. What better used could it have? It would save a bundle of money while providing a necessary building/services.

Perhaps other offices could go there also, i.e., probation offices.

Fromthereport, it's obvious you'd love to return to the days of education only for those who can afford it. Myopic viewpoint, but you're entitled to it.
