"A married couple that stays together for one year has more rights than a gay couple that's been together for 25, 30 years," Mirabito said.

So, change the law to allow them the same rights rather than redefine marriage.

Same sex marriage is just so gay. It's a husband and a wife for Pete's sake. What's the J.P. or minister to say in the case of same sex? "I now pronounce you man and man", "...woman and woman", "...husband and husband", "...wife and wife"? Then you have the whole thing with introductions. "Hi, I'm Michelle, and this is my wife Wanda".

You got it Mike, tweak the laws a bit and leave marriage alone.

Yaw's POV is interesting.

"I don't think the commonwealth, the state government should be involved in dictating what is and is not marriage. I think that's not something we should be doing," Yaw said.

Yaw took a wider lens than Everett and said a large segment in the nation recognizes same-sex marriage."

I was always told that 2 wrongs don't make a right and just because so and so does it doesn't mean you have to. Who cares what kooky states like California and Washington and the like do?

The bill would redefine marriage....replacing the existing language, "a civil contract by which one man and one woman take each other for husband and wife."

I'd be anxious to see where such verbiage exists.

That's easy to say...when you've got a Life o' your own.

Unfortunately...or, maybe by design...too-many "conservatives" aren't as fortunate, as you. I'm sure they'd like to TRY developing a Life...o' their own...but, they always seem to get sidetracked by the World's "more-significant" problems. A less-observant person might assume they're PURPOSELY "concerned", about other-peoples' lives...in an effort to AVOID dealing with their own issues. That could also suggest LAZINESS, on their part...but, I prefer not to be so presumptuous.

I think there are way too many pressing issues that need our attention to be distracted by a law that defines marriage. Having many gay friends, family members and some employees it would be impossible for me to say "deny these people the right to have the same rights and responsibilities" as other couples. And, these people are mostly better neighbors, employees and friends than "straight" folks. I can't see what the fuss is all about.

This is going to a great day. Looks like the LTE yesterday will hold true.

This legislation will pass, if not now it will later and 25 years from now no one will think anything of it. Grow up people.

What difference does it make? You and your husband or wife love each other so deeply that you stood before God and took an oath to stay true to each other for life. How can the sanctity of that act be affected by ANYTHING others do or say? How does allowing gays to marry lessen the bond you made with your spouse?

Over the years I have seen so many pictures of couples in the SG celebrating their 40, 50 and 60 year anniversaries. These are people who WORKED at their marriages......who truly obeyed the oaths they made to each other.

Please do not use the excuse that gays marrying will make a mockeery of marriage. With 70% of marriages ending in divorce, heterosexuals have done a good job of already doing that!

I am a conservative and a Christian who believes that when God said "judge not," He meant it. It is HIS job, not ours.

There is only one unforgivable sin that will keep you from attaining everlasting life with our Savior and that is blasphemy, denying Him

Rick424 is right. In 25 years (likely sooner) all states will have this and no one will proudly say to their children that the fought for stopping marriage equality. Snipping phrases like Larry is posting will become like the embarrassing racial comments that old people might now say that embarrass their children and grandchildren. Get on the right side of history now.

I agree with Mr. Yaw. The government should have nothing to say about marriage. For centuries it's been a religious ceremony until governments found a way to make money and create agendas with it.

Marriage by government is a civil ceremony no matter how you define marriage personally. Marriage by religion is between the couple and their God. If certain religions don't approve of gay marriage them let them opt out.

If a couple wants the benefits they feel they deserve, then let the government be their god. This whole Gay thing is a waste of time. People are what they are. Keep government out of marriage, even though the use of the word has morphed into a tangled web.

Grow up and take on some responsibility for yourselves. Act accordingly and live and let live.

The statements by Representative Everett and Senator Yaw are wrong and misleading. Everett said that same-sex couples “can live together, and can do absolutely everything except marry.” What exactly is it that we can “do” that is equal to marriage? Yes, we can live together and build our lives together, but do not enjoy any of the benefits of marriage. That’s the inequality this Bill aims to correct. Representative Mirabito was right on point with his remarks about the effects of denying marriage equality.

Yaw doesn’t think the government should be involved in defining marriage. It already is! That’s it’s job. Maybe he forgets that our government couldn’t redefine marriage fast enough in 1996 to make sure same-sex marriages from other states wouldn’t be recognized.

I’m very encouraged to see so many positive comments here. Contact your representatives because they only hear from those who are against marriage equality.

In the not so near future, soon young adults will have no idea what marriage should be like or if they are dating a man or a woman with all of the sex changes happening...glad I am not bringing any more children into this kind of sick world they will be living in.

Yaw is of the opinion that government should not be involved in defining marriage. As the law is currently written, it DOES define marriage. Changing the wording to read marriage is between 2 people would still define marriage, but would limit it to marriage between people, not a person with an animal. It would also not discriminate against the gays. It would be more fair than actually defining it as between a man and a woman. Also, Everett just verified what I thought all along. Pennsylvania is full of the most backward hicks I have ever seen in my live. Even when change is good, the resist because they have "always done it this way". Why do you think it took so long to get authentic mexican food in our city? Frankly, I am surprised we have had so many Chinese restaurants for so long. Pennsylvanians are also know for making fun of all other peoples other than *******, backwoods hick Pennsylvanians.

First, I agree with Yaw that the gov't should get out of defining marriage.

Then, with regard to taxes, let's change the tax laws, not redefine marriage.

Just remember, the tax credit for married couples was an incentive to procreation. Remove that and keep the child tax credit to encourage adoption.

If we have to change the adoption laws, so be it.

Nobody can visit another person in an ICU without documentation. If they just look at you and let you enter because you are a different gender, that is meaningless.

That documentation should be created when the couple is united. A Marriage Certificate or notarized civil union document.

The inheritance tax is just a tax issue, not a marriage issue. Change the tax laws.

Mirabito is an a-s-s for saying there are no laws against discriminating against people based on their sexual orientation.

He should lose his job for lying.

The statement is true but with that logic to govern your behavior, why not commit adultery against your husband; why not steal time from an employer, why not steal money from others as long as you don't get caught, why not terminate those in the womb, why not murder your neighbor as long as you don't get caught, why not go smoke MJ in Washington state or enjoy crack in Amsterdam, why bother helping other people?

The answer is......Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.

How do you reconcile verses like Romans 1:26-32?

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 18:22 KJV)[1]

20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination:

Seems pretty clear to me. You can't just pick and choose what is right in wrong and what you want to believe in the Bible. You better stand up for somthing or your fall for any thing.
