It should be a crime

October 7, 2013

We are in a government shutdown. It is a national shame, that Congress, politicians, would think of not paying soldiers. Men and women who put their lives on the line for them and us....

" Republicans are almost insatiable in their desire to eliminate social spending in favor of tax cuts for big business."

And these are not worthy concepts, why?

"They are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats and should be stopped."

Part of finding a solution to a problem is accepting responsibility. Both parties are reacting to the leader, who incidentally isn't in the room and hasn't been for some time. Someone has to lead.

What happens to the markets if everyone in the county moves all of their 401k into bonds over the weekend?

Chuck, actually the shutdown does save money. When I worked in government, they went to a compressed work schedule, working four days a week, vice five. The reason they did it was because they would save millions annually by not having to have infrastructure and equipment operating that fifth day. If I'm not mistaken many places still run on a compressed schedule. Even when I was a government contractor, we adjusted our schedule to match theirs and this also saved the company money.

..and your "absolute" means nothing with no proof. The article you copy and pasted didn't even support your claim.

Let's face it Gavin you are not going to admit that the shutdown is going to cost us money. I am done talking to you about this.

...and the only way the left can find ways to save money is to spend it.

Yep Chuck, you are correct if the words "probably" and "marginal" mean nothing to you.

Again Gavin you did not read all of the post. Even if you don't give backpay to federal workers the shutdown will incur added costs.

Of course the only way the right can find to save money is to not pay.

Republicans are not ofering a thing, they are as stubborn in their resolve as they say the democrats are.

I agree Jerry, although last night on Chris Hayes they were talking about budget deficits being good for the country and the world.

Actually, I will add this, it seems to me the best way to take away the threat of exceeding the debt ceiling would be to pass a balanced budget.

It's like watching a train traveling at 3 mph about crash into a wall. We all know what's about to happen and no one can stop it.

I have nothing new to add to my earlier comments.

Nothing changed today.

I still say Tea Party Republicans have the upper hand.

The Obama administration can tell you "how many jobs" were created by the stimulus, but they cannot tell you how many people have signed up for Obamacare.

It is very important to realize what is REALITY and place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the party whose members warned us for months that they were going to shut the government down: Republicans. Facts are stubborn things. The Democrats tried SIX TIMES to sit down and negotiate on the budget EVEN AFTER it was whittled down $216 billion dollars LESS than what our President asked for. They are terrible negotiators...and Republicans are almost insatiable in their desire to eliminate social spending in favor of tax cuts for big business. What a shame!

You are right, Darlene. It is a crime how the Republicans have taken our government hostage. They are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats and should be stopped.

Most of that cost was attributed to paying back wages for furloughed employees. - CMReeder

Your own post contradicts you.

Well then not all states will let federal workers sign up for unemployment due to the shutdown. What makes you think the states will like to have to add federal furlough workers to the unemployment roster.

You like Gavin did not read all of it. The shutdown will cost money even if you did not give backpay to furloughed federal workers. It doesn't save money.

Yep, the shutdown is stupid. If only the Democrats would negotiate, but you don't see that.

P.S. - I just treat people the same way they treat me. (Wink, wink.)
