Timely or tardy

October 11, 2013

Why is councilwoman Liz Miele often late for city council meetings, can’t she tell time? Doesn’t she know council meets every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m....

I wonder if she has ever declined to take the loyalty oath to which all elected officials must swear.

Excellent letter! While Ms. Miele has every right to refuse to say the Pledge of Allegiance, I think I'll exercise my rights next election by voting for her out so she can exercise the right to stay home.

For various reasons, I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion she won't be re-elected.

"I believe Ms. Miele has the right to refuse to pledge her allegiance to the flag. I also believe her refusal makes her unfit to serve as an elected official. Timely or tardy, Ms. Miele's habit of being late to council meetings seems tardy to you and I, but very progressive and timely for her." - Mark Holt

Go-ahead...say it. Politicians, like Ted Cruz, have made it hip/trendy to accuse (other) Americans of being Communists, once-again!!

So if you are on time and recite the 'pledge' at every turn you must be a 'conservative'?

Wow any other job and she would have been fired buy now. And if she wont say the pledge of alleagance she is unfit to hold her position. I have had friends that have died serving this country and our flag. I feel her actions are not only disrespectful to them but to every one. FREAKIN' COMMIE!!

Actually, if you read the letter it sounds like Mr. Holt is a liberal. But does it really matter? If in fact Ms. Miele is late in order to avoid saying the Pledge, then I think that is a cowardly way to "stand" for her convictions against it. The Supreme Court has ruled that children aren't required to recite it and they can sit during the pledge or just not say God, just as Ms. Miele has that right. She apparently chooses to hide her opposition instead.

And btw, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before a City Council meeting is not exclusive to this area, it is done at many City Council meetings across the country.

Let's see, she's constantly late, since she's late she misses the Pledge; No Commie here, could be just in it for the money. How's her voting record?

Apart from her tardiness, which she would not tolerate from her own employees, I am concerned Ms. Miele seems unprepared for meetings, appears to be constantly distracted, and even texts during Council meetings.

He's right. All conaervatives are patriotic, godly and punctual. Working conservatives should only be allowed to vote. This is a good versus evil battle. I'm glad mark Holt wrote a letter rather than confronting her face to face. It takes more bravery to talk behind someone's back.

Who cares...Is there a rule that says you have to be on time? If so then let other people deal with it. Another whining republican.

rick424, as taxpayers Ms. Miele is our employee, therefore I believe it is all tax paying citizens of Williamsport's responsibility to "deal with it."

Rick, some things go without saying and should be taught to you when your parents are raising you to be a responsible adult. I guess you missed that lesson in life.
