Capricorn1 > ",,, your education consists of talking points from MSNBC and the Daily KOS."

And yours? Rush and Faux Noise?

"The folks that run those memorials were already scheduled to get paid all back pay as a result of the shutdown so there is NO reason they shouldn't have been required to work to keep those memorials open."

FALSE - As you were told by several folks on a different page.

"It's called civil service. Your excuses are like the backside you are sitting on."

No sensible substance to offer - so instead you turn to vitriol?

Shame!

A little reefer cost a little violence and a lot of reefer cost a lot of violence.-Boxtops1234

In my opinion, this is one of the reasons it should be legalized, as was alcohol after prohibition.(which caused violence, I might add) In my younger days, at parties, I witnessed both heavy drinking, and the "heads". It was always the drinkers who ended up in fights. The "partiers" biggest fight was-"stop hogging the chips!!".

Dumbama can't get any voters out of the national park!

Veterans think too much of America to vote for someone like Dumbama!

The sentiment that a little reefer hurt no one is a major issue. A little reefer bought by millions of people becomes a lot of reefer. That adds up. A little reefer cost a little violence and a lot of reefer cost a lot of violence. The more drugs you have the more drug related crime and addiction you’re going to have. Those kids and townies smoking weed at the river lots in the summer solicit murder but they don’t see it; they see a little bag of reefer for good times. Our crime problems here are from your kids and friends buying drugs and creating the demand. If you care about the town then you’ll lay into anyone that uses drugs or you’ll rat out anyone you find that deals to the police.

Kids are spending their minimum wage or allowance on drugs because they haven’t been guided on how to deal with life. We aren’t responsible and we give cartels our kids to peddle their drugs to. Look at the prisons, there are some real monsters for sure; but they are very few in number to those with drug related charges who probably wouldn’t have had such a hard time with life if they had better role models and less access to drugs. We are the drug dealer’s greatest market. I can relate to Mexicans coming across the border to get away from murderous drug cartels. I have compassion there and I have no problem with those refugees coming here so their children won’t have to be caught up in a war. The cartels and the gangs are an issue. Allowing ourselves to be their best market is the issue. I’m sure the majority of people are against drugs but what needs to happen is a zero tolerance for drugs.

The border problem is a drug problem and our own fault. There is just too much opportunity to make fast money when we turn a blind eye to Marijuana use. We have an ever growing pool of people addicted to prescription painkillers that get turned on to street drugs because of easier accessibility and lower cost. We don’t live within our means and we spend our time grinding out time at work instead of guiding our kids in the right direction. You often here “it’s a shame the kid came from a good family”. I wonder is a good family what it appears to be. Is a family that has money considered a good family because they appear to be successful? A good family spends real time as a family. People need to make a decision to make their families their hobby. Men don’t need to spend time golfing or riding motorcycles on the weekends why their wife stays at home. You don’t need to go out to the bar if you have kids.

"And he will definitely have my vote next election if I'm still alive to vote!"

I'm not sure, but you might be missing my point. Then maybe you were out to prove my point. Some people on here continue to talk about throwing people out of office. They are sick of them. They want them gone. But wait - it's the other guy - that's right - always the other guy. Our guy is alright.

I expect there are more people like you and Rep. Marino will be reelected next year.

"Nothing was attached."

Really Mike? Well I'm sure you read the article today where Rep. Marino said he didn't like the idea of attaching ways to defund the ACA in the bills sent to the Senate.

Every bill the House sent over to the Senate had something in there to defund the ACA.

Cont. in response to rmiller: This brings us back to disrespect for The Office of the Presidency. It IMO, is one small example of what I see as a bitter hatred for our government. I read today that one Michelle Bachman(spelling?) said it was a sad day for America because our government was reopened. WHY would an elected official of this country feel that way? Does she really have the best interests of the USA, & it's people in heart? She wishes turmoil,& bad things for the country she was elected to serve? It is bad that a solution(if only a temp.) is found? REALLY?? To me, just another symptom of hatred, or at best, wishes of ill will toward this nation. It would also appear that her feelings are not isolated to just herself. IMO, It is truly sad. I wish better for our youth. Well, I have taken enough of your time, you are one with whom I very much enjoy exchanging views with--as I feel you are sincere, and civil. Have a safe & pleasant evening-Scott

rmiller, First off, thank you for a sincere response. Many of the things you mentioned in response to how has he "violated the trust" of our military are IMO, knitpicking.(please believe me, no disrespect is intended, rather a different view) Take Benghazi for example, how many hearings have there been? It is beginning to resemble a witch hunt IMO. The flag being worn? Please, I know you are a much deeper thinker than to judge a person by his dress.(does putting a flag pin on automatically make one a patriot?)

To your other post, I feel you & I are on the same page. Respect for the office(the person, any person, must earn personal respect), whomever is in it should be shown, at least IMO. It is my personal feeling from some of the things I read, hear on TV,& radio, not to mention posts here, & elsewhere is that there are some whom would love to see this government completely fail. This is patriotism, & love of this great nation? Cont.

"For all the talk of throwing lawmakers out, how much do you want to bet Marino is reelected next year?"

Marino was elected by conservatives to serve a conservative area.....which HE IS DOING! And he will definitely have my vote next election if I'm still alive to vote!

Big meeting! AVCO has screwed their people! Retirees are being shifted to AARP's United Health. The big-hearted AVCO is going to pay the first year membership to AARP, but after that everyone has to pay their own. Isn't that something? Having to pay a membership to AARP in order to have insurance?

BUT!!!!! Remember how hard AARP worked to get Dumbamacare passed? They actually set in on and participated in the writing of the bill. Now they are getting their rewards!!!!! Lots of new dues/premium payers.

The stories are out there to be told, of like manner. God help us because this lie is only one of many. Pretty soon we are going to hear this phrase, "that's not what I said...uhhhh...what I said was...."

Scott,

Respect for the office, not the person needs to be established. This person has done nothing for some, many to earn our respect, period. He started his campaign with dubious and questionable history. That particular history, is and has been permeating his every move. He is who he is and that is someone, most of us, including yourself really don't know.

"Oh, and could you please explain to me how our Commander & Chief has "violated the trust" of the armed forces for which he is the Commander of."

Lest we digress, the absence of the flag worn (until PR advised it might be a good idea) during early campaigning/subsequent appearances, no show for veteran balls, during first inauguration, calling terrorism of the methodical execution of an islamic person on a military installation, "workplace violence", Benghazi is still in question, not paying our military families entitlement death benefits until it became a hotbed of political nuance', and I'm sure I've forgotten things, not to mention uhmmmm...when was the last visit to a military person in any one of our military hospitals by their ever so conscious CIC? Scott, you make some decent and thought provoking posts. Somehow, this question you pose seems a bit uncharacteristic? And no, I didn't misspell Islamic, just chose to not capitalize the word.

continued...

These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and vetted, government contracts were awarded. The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured then distributed.

This shutdown was orchestrated and planned well in advance at least 6-8 months ago. Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process. There is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.

I'll just throw this out there... From John Crockett.... Did anyone besides me wonder how they got all those signs printing and distributed them far and wide, including to all the national parks and cemeteries overseas only eight to ten hours after the government shut down? Take a look at this from someone who wanted to remain anonymous.

"I have worked in the government on and off for 40 years. During that time I became quite familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc. It is a time consuming process with bean-counters and pencil-necked bureaucrats. The simplest request takes months not days or hours."

In less than 8 hours of the shutdown, miraculously, professionally printed 3X4 foot signs appeared all over the country in the tens of thousands saying-“this [park, facility, etc. with custom logos] closed due to government shutdown. There has not been a government shutdown in 17 years. ...

Actually, Mike, Obamacare doesn't need to be specifically funded; it's one of the automatic expenditures.

The individual bills (19 of them) sent to the Senate funded specific issues individually. The Senate passed two or three of those.

The original CR proposal from the House contained language to defund ObamaCare, then the House compromised to a one-year delay.

I think it's going to end up being delayed if they can't get the website going real soon. I have 58 days to avoid a lapse in coverage (I couldn't keep my plan; Obama lied through his teeth).

Nothing was attached. The Dems and Obama wanted funding for Obamacare attached to all of them.
