The war on Christianity

October 22, 2013

In a recent letter entitled War on Christianity the writer would have us believe that it is the Republicans who are not in step with the New Testament and that the Democrats are....

"However, if one wishes to examine the premise of the letter in question one must ask where it is written in the New Testament that the destruction of innocent infants is condoned I must have been absent from Sunday School when that lesson was taught." - Kenneth H. Robertson

'Tis true. All-of-that was in the original-version.

So, Shaman believes abortion is the same as ritual human sacrifice.

Thank you.

One is illegal, the other should be as well.

Anyone who brings ideology to Christianity is wrong in doing so. Right, left, moderate, center it makes no difference. Anyone who brings ideology to any religion is wrong in doing so.

The right complaining about the left claims about the Bible and the teachings of Christ are no better in their claims.

I agree.

Pope Frances states: “The faith passes, so to speak, through a distiller and becomes ideology… And ideology does not beckon [people]. In ideologies there is not Jesus: in his tenderness, his love, his meekness. And ideologies are rigid, always. Of every sign: rigid. When a Christian becomes a disciple of the ideology, he has lost the faith: he is no longer a disciple of Jesus, he is a disciple of this attitude of thought… For this reason Jesus said to them: ‘You have taken away the key of knowledge.’ The knowledge of Jesus is transformed into an ideological and also moralistic knowledge, because these close the door with many requirements.”

Ah, yes...ya' can't very-well punish some woman (for "inappropriate"-behavior)...with a lil' long-term poverty...if she chooses the option of avoiding such an outcome.

Not EVERYONE has the same "need", for martyrdom, as Christians.

If you take the whole Bible into consideration, there are many instances in the Old Testament where innocent lives are brutally ended on behalf of God. We should be as concerned about those who go to war on behalf of Christianity as we are those who go to war against Christianity.

Politics and religion are two sides of the same coin. It is impossible to separate them completely. However, the more we can separate them, the better off we are.

Good morning David. Innocent lives have been shed since the inception of man by God. It in no way confers Him as responsible for the actions of sinful man. God never intended sin. There was and still is choice.

Mr. Robertson has used the word, "condoned". Again, God is alleviated from the sinful action of man. Sham, take your "brag on the d e v i l some place else.

"We should be as concerned about those who go to war on behalf of Christianity as we are those who go to war against Christianity. "

These actions were not done on "behalf of Christianity."

Chuck is right about this. What he misses is that if one truly believes in their religion, then that must inform their political ideology. Whether we like it or not, political belief is just a translation of all of our other beliefs. But it should never be the other way around. The problem with most liberals is that government is their real religion. Because of this, it is love of government that informs all of their other thoughts.

MrShaman I checked out Ritual Human Sacrifice In The Bible and only find references to the Old Testament.

Writer specifically stated "New Testament" so can you point me to the part of the New Testatment that supports the destruction of innocent infants?

Since you seem to be the most learned person the SG comment threads.

" See: Ritual Human Sacrifice In The Bible"-Sham

Yes there is human sacrifice in the Bible. It is not condoned by God however. Imagine that, everything that is forbidden in the Bible is mentioned in the Bible. I would have thought that was a no-brainer, but Sham didn't get it so I guess it isn't. Sham will be my new gauge for no-brainers. Since he has no brain, only things he understands will now be called no-brainers. Having an objective reference will be very helpful.

Progressives (Democrats) main objective with regards to religion is to secularize it to make it fit with their love of government. Most Catholics and many Protestant Churches, along with most Jews and all atheists have been secularized so that government programs devised by progressives attach themselves readily to those religions and thus destroy the separation of church and state. In its wake, the Constitution is nullified.

What exactly is it that consevatives are doing then destroying government and making everyone a Christian. Turning christianity into the official religion of the United States of America. So much for freedom of religion.

When you take faith and mix it with ideology you no longer have faith. This is what too many are trying to do.

mahs81,

Perhaps the comment regarding human ritual sacrifice in the NT was referencing the slaughter, by Herod, when Christ was born, in the enemy's sick and vicious attempt to kill the then Baby Jesus." I don't know that is the case, but perhaps. There is, as you rightly pointed out no incidence of human sacrifice in the NT. I especially appreciate your indulgence in this commentary.

Scott, The short version is that if a man accuses his wife of infidelity, that God will be the judge. It is quite convoluted to our modern minds, but that's the bottom line.

Scott,

I am by no means a Bible Scholar. I usually call our Pastor, or my son who is also a pastor and get their "understanding" of a passage. I can't reach either of them, so here is what the KJV, Life Application Study Bible commentary reads. I must admit, I have never read that particular passage, along with many other parts of the Bible. This one was different. It would benefit you to read the rest of the chapter because that sort of brings closure to what the commentary says. Here goes....cont...

Enigma,

Outstanding response....

Study Bible Commentary is verbatim to what Enigma says.

"The test for adultery served to remove a jealous husband's suspicion. Trust between a husband and wife had to be completely eroded for a man to bring his wife to the priest for this type of test. Today's priests and pastors help restore marriages by counseling couples who have lost faith in each other. Men and women should strengthen the bond of trust in marriage. Flirtatious and intimate communication with someone you're not married to can build suspicion and weaken trust. cont.

Guard your heat and guard your marriage in order to maintain trust and strengthen your bond with your spouse. Today we are unsure what the bitter water, the rotting thigh, and the swelling belly were. But, the intent of the procedure is clear; in the absence of positive proof, the priest appealed to God to determine the guilt of innocence of the accused person."

Now....Scott....you do know that many of the OT laws were for the nation of Israel only, right?
