Eating crow

October 24, 2013

I hope the sports staff at the Sun-Gazette has plenty of towels to wipe the egg off their smirky little faces today, following Penn State's motivational victory over Michigan....

rmiller: I'd hedge a bet there's more praying going on during sporting events than in church on Sunday.....

Enigma, I agree with your comment except for the crossing the line statement. That line is crossed daily in LTE's and comments by die hard liberal and conservatives. We beat on the SG editorial writers; the sports writers shouldn't get a free pass.

If I was a betting man, my money would be on OSU.

Being a Penn State fan is understandable and in fact quite acceptable, but being a jerk is not. Jeffery has crossed that line with this letter. Penn State's win against Michigan was unexpected, but welcome. A win against Ohio State is even more unexpected, but would be just as welcome. I expect sports writers to have an unbiased view and not be, like Jeffery, rabid fans with no sense of reality.

It is only a game, sit back and enjoy it for a change.

I’d like to see PSU win Saturday, but I’m not going to place any bets that they will. If they lose, I’m not going to blame any sports writers for predicting as much. OSU has proven themselves to be a vastly superior team and if I had to make a sport’s writers prediction, I’d pick OSU too.

Probably. Sports are not bad, and indeed are a positive action in this world, especially for our youth. One can argue however, that sports and entertainment are two gods competing for our souls against the real God we need.

1. Jeffrey, at least three members of the sports staff are PSU alum. 2.rmiller- ever think some use sports to temporarily retreat from the gloom and doom world you so cheerfully describe?

A govt. that is in perpetual conflict, a country that is morally bankrupt, a world that is spiritually lost and dying, people starving to death and or freezing to death, murder at an all time high, and sports evokes time from someone's day for a "gotch-ya"?

What bowl game are they going to anyways? I think too much emphasis is put into all of this in general. Sorry up front!

I am also an avid Penn State fan, but relax Jeffrey, they weren't predicting anything different than most other sports media. I'm glad they were all wrong!

I love PSU Jeff and I hope your right but OSU at every position is superior. But the again if we already knew the outcome the games wouldn't be played. GO Penn State.
