Has anyone noticed that the letter to editor section had become a lobbying area for politicians

"We should elect somebody who will bring a different perspective to the table."

What are some of the ideas that Jennifer wants to implement?

I agree, if they want to endorse someone, buy some advertising space.

OMG!

You all talk about politics and politicians. People write in about politics and politicians. But you don't like endorsement of a candidate in a LTE. In the past most of the posters here had no problem endorsing a candidate that they like in the comments section. But what ever you do please do not write a letter to endorse a candidate, LOL.

What's MOST-amusing, is when the same types of people accuse politicians of getting "political", when those politicians express opinions with which their critics disagree!!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the comments on these letters today are absolutely hilarious. First it's "throw the cheerleader in the rain, we don't care", now it's "how dare you inform the readers of this paper about a candidate we may or may not even be eligible to vote for/against!"

Thanks for brightening my morning!

Lots of topics are discussed here, including politics. Author, you should have included specific reasons your friend should be elected. We have had too many pols elected on vague ideas that never seem to materialize into anything. Perhaps a second letter with specifics is in order.

I like these LTEs.

However, I agree that, so far, most have been lacking in any policy positions that would inform our vote.

We already voted for "change" for the sake of change. It's not working out so well.

I think one of the reason behind having paid political advertisements is so the candidate can sanction what is being posted for them. Having discussion about a candidate is fine, but promoting them in a LTE may not be to the benefit of the candidate. With postings and comments here taken so literally, I see a danger of someone making a statement not specific or actual for a candidate and it could be harmful to their campaign and ultimately to their election.

CitizenQ, I think there's already too much money influencing our political system and would hate to see it creep into campaigns for Township Supervisor or other local offices.

It's an endorsement not a political ad followed by an Q and A.

The only way for that to happen CitizenQ is if an opposing candidiate reads the comments posted here and then makes an political ad out of it.

People are making way too much of this letter and others similar to it.

My teacher, cousin, postal carrier, plumber, brother's best friend, etc. is the greatest person ever, so vote for them. Direct political endorsements don't belong in the LTE section. We need that space so we can rail on each other.

The SG shuts off LTE endorsement letters one week before an election. I called today to ask about the policy and that is how it was explained to me. So this was most likely the last one this year.

Very few conservatives in "Human Services"..
