Workers beware!

November 6, 2013

Did you know that if House Bill 1189 passes, the State Senate and Governor Corbett signs it, local school districts could lower property taxes for wealthy land and property owners and seniors and......

Another liberal who thinks that only the rich own houses. And notice how he slams our seniors along with the rich? Whatever happened to the Democrats being 'for the people'? I looked over the bill and nothing in there says anything about rental income being exempt from taxation, so it appears Mr Faust continues with his line of misinformation. But I've come to expect it.

Personally, I don't favor this bill, but for factual reasons, not something made up. I don't like it because it allows for partial elimination of property taxes while adding sales and income taxes. I prefer HB/SB 76 which eliminates property taxes completely.

Mike, I'm with you on this. HB/SB 76 makes much more sense.

So rich people have "No earned income"? So what would be "fair" to you David, maybe getting those greedy senior citizens off their lazy butts and back into the work force?

"So rich people have "No earned income"?" - Premier

Steve Forbes surely did think so...when he suggested a flat-tax would NOT impact income-from-investments/dividends; only DIRECT-income.

Mike I am with you on this one, I believe HB76 to be a much fairer bill. It eliminates the property tax altogether, unlike HB1189. One other very positive aspect, besides the complete elimination of the property tax, is that it sets up a referendum so that voters decide to change the way schools are funded, not the school boards as HB1189 does.

Liberals despise success. While they tax your income heavily, leaving a little leftover to invest, they now want to tax the interest earned on taxed money.....or double taxation.

Yes, eliminate property taxes is a violation of property rights and another form of double taxation.

I'm one of the resident Dems here(most of the time) and I like the bill as a "wealthy" property owner. Pass it. Erik, I don't think "liberals" do oppose this Bill. Sometimes, every so often, the pols do come up with a decent idea.

"Liberals despise success."

That is why the right worked so hard against Obama, they love people who are successful. The right has no respect for success, they have respect for wealth.

First of all, liberals do not despise success. Erik you are messed up. How do you live with that black heart filled with hate for liberals?

I was talking to someone the other day about how our senior citizens, when in their 20's, bought a house for a few thousand dollars, worked their whole life and then have to continue to pay property taxes. Some have to sell their house because of those taxes and I don't think it's right.

But if you eliminate property taxes, money to educate our kids have to come from somewhere. In that case, I am for HB 76. But instead of a pesky 4.34% personal income tax, round it off and make it an even 5%.

Fair is fair so instead of increasing the sales tax to 8% in Philly and Pittsburgh and 7% everywhere else, make it 8% for the whole state. Again, fair is fair.

I also like that the sales tax doesn't touch the WIC list.

So yes, pass HB 76.

The left loves success; the successful are the ones they look to for support of their welfare programs through wealth re-distribution.

How about 15% Sales Tax and eliminate the Employment Taxes and property taxes entirely. And have a higher Tax on cars over $50,000 and houses over $300,000. That should stick it to those "Rich Folks". Give the lower income people a anti-tax card and it would both please the Right and Left people.

Gotta hate those "wealthy" people; why do they need all that money and who did they step on to get it. Don't they know there are poor people out there who could use that money? Mean, evil, selfish wealthy people.

Instead of taxing the rich at a higher rate, why don't liberals propose taxing Jews at a higher rate?

What's the difference?

Both are minorities.....and we keep hearing how liberals protect minority rights.

Or is that just another liberal lie to mask the truth that liberals only care about minority groups that they deem worthy?

It is proof that liberals do not believe in equal protection under the law and keep dividing citizens by various criteria for their own political power.

idiottwo-"its always better for someone else to pay, isn't it?"

Actually, I think it's just fine for everyone to pay their fair share. The truth is that I/we will end up paying more with the income/sales tax than we do the property tax. And I'm OK with that because it's a fairer way to collect the money.

I was a proponent of getting rid of the 'occupational assessment tax' where they taxed your job title rather than your income. I was paying $450/year for that tax. Since they changed over to an income based tax my taxes have gone up 120%, more than double. And I am thankful for that, because it's a fair tax levied against everyone based on their income.

Why do you guys always pick on the rich Dems? ALL the politicians get rich while in office and then they turn into lobbyists, go to wall street, back to their high priced law firms or the media. But haven't they worked for that money; they've cheated no one out of their hard earned money, have they? Albert "Algore" Gore Jr. is now worth somewhere in the 9 figure range, but he can't help it if some people want to give him money to talk about a hoax. If Citizens want to vote themselves higher taxes, let them do it. That's what good liberals do to punish rich Republicans, while ignorant of the fact that it might cost jobs or increase prices. But then they get mad because someone wants to make a "profit" (evil word to Libs) or get paid for their hard work in building a business and hiring people.

Mr. Reeder said:

"The right continues to browbeat the poor and give to the wealthy."

Liberals denigrate the poor by constantly telling everyone how incapable they are and how they would all die without liberal help.

Chuck, the right doesn't have the market cornered on the wealthy. Neither side of the aisle has turned their back on big business lobbyist and done anything to curb corporate welfare and the tax breaks for the rich and famous. The day liberals stop pointing fingers and actually make that a priority, is the day I'll stop calling them hypocrites.

After reading PaHB76 [formerly 1776], I believe it is the best option for elimination of property tax for funding school districts. The only problem I see is that there has been NO movement on this bill....will it stagnate and die?

I am tired of the rich and poor talk. Since when in America should we hate people because they are successful? Being successful and or rich used to be something to aspire. Now, dont put words in my mouth, money and success dont always go hand in hand. If people spent as much time working as they do worrying about what everyone else hasand how they can get the rich to pay for everything they might actually elevate themselves. There is so much assistance for lower income people there is no reason they should not be able to work themselves out.

eriklatranyi hit the nail on the head. If you tell people they are helpless and it is not worth trying enough times they will believe it. People who feel they have less should work for more. You want hirer pay, go to College. You want benefits acquire a skill that lands you a job with benefits. No thing is free and handouts do not help anyone. Successful people can help those less fortunate, not by paying more taxes to a corrupt system or by giving handouts, they can help by sharing their path to success.

You people crack me up! This bill is going to eliminate school property tax just like the gaming revenue did. LOL Besides paying high school taxes, we will be paying higher local tax and sales tax. What a joke, fire them all and start fresh.
