‘Green space’ needed

November 11, 2013

I’m writing in regard to the Mid Town Parking deck demolition and replacement controversy. While not a money making suggestion, I believe we could all benefit from some “green space” down town....

What about a roof top garden on top of the parking deck? Solves both issues.

Yes, Capricon1, you are about the only person that understands this situation. No one seems to care about the 160-some downtown workers who were promised a new deck when they were kicked out of the old one so they could tear it down and build a new one! I happen to be one of those displaced monthly parkers. I do not mind walking 4 blocks when the weather is good, but when the snow starts to fly we will all be trudging through the snow to get to our offices and our vehicles will be out in the elements. We were told there is no room in the other 2 parking decks downtown.

Parking generates revenue and is at a premium in the downtown area. I agree with the others.

And maybe they could plant some gum-drop trees and lollipop bushes there, with a lemonade stream and unicorn rides for the children. Or here's another idea, maybe the business part of the city could do business. It's a radical idea, but it just might work.

Thanks to any and all who have served or are serving these United States. Without you, none of this would be possible. We should never forget and always honor how our freedoms were/are gained and maintained.

David, I don't see anything like that happening. They are dead set on building a parking deck. I just can't believe they tore down the old deck before funding was secured for the new one. They put all their eggs in one basket thinking they were going to get that grant money.

I like Gail's suggestion. I don't know how far along the planning is for that site, but there may be some ways to accomplish some of Gail's ideas and still make the site viable for developers. Especially is planning is sill in the early stages.

Tax base! When SHS abused the Eminent domain, and tore down 139 houses, there went your tax base.

Agreed!!

With any luck, we might (also) see such a site as a "showcase"...for what can be accomplished, when (supposed) "adults" recognize (and, adapt-to) the stated-purpose of trash-receptacles (up-to-and-including cigarette-butts).
