Good advice Ms. Crayton. I think you would make a great block leader for a Neighborhood Watch group. Fight back, take back your neighborhood and protect your property rights.

I guess this is what sets the men apart from boys chuck as being a well armed citizen I broke up a burglary in progress last year you'll read about 2 of them being sentenced in the paper probably tomorrow or next day you see one doesn't have to answer the call to get armed when one already is. And ps both of these guys where held at gun point to the cops arrived and not one shot was fired I guess it was just the fear I might that made them feared you see that's all it took so not everyone who owns a gun is all that nutty as your type proclaims

Capricorn1, I didn't really want to point an accusing finger, I was just pointing out that getting the crooks to go to the next house doesn't solve the problem. Wile protecting your own home is important, the aim should be to stop the activity altogether. A shotgun pointed at you will make you completely rethink your activity. The thought that there may be death waiting for you in every home is a much better deterrent than the idea that that one policeman on duty in your town might just happen to drive by. A highly visible neighborhood watch also helps, but may only act to chase them to another neighborhood. I'm for stopping crime, not just relocating it.

Enigma, these are just suggestions to help people keep themselves, their home and their property safe. You give thieves too much credit.

Chuck, yes I encourage forming neighborhood watch groups but too often most don't want to get involved. They expect the police to be their private security firm.

"You all are slippy. No call to arm yourself or to form a neighborhood watch."-Chuck

You're right Chuck. Don't forget the advice fro the Vice President, "Buy a shotgun". Not a double barrel, but a pump. If you rack that baby with authority, the bad guys will be gone so fast you will never have to fire it.

What's with you guys giving advice on how to get crooks to break into your neighbor's house? I'm glad I don't have neighbors like you.

It is not just South williamsport, Montoursville has notice an increase in burglaries, during the day. As has other areas.

For those that think property crime is not that big of a problem in this area, I suggest you Google crime statistics for Williamsport. We are not only well above the state average, but also the national average.

Trim your bushes and trees that can be used to conceal criminals.

Move objects in your yard that could be used by criminals to conceal their movement.

Thieves are criminals of opportunity.....decrease their opportunities and they will move to another house.

If you are really motivate to catch them, setup a game camera in your yard using infrared light. It will be invisible to the criminals, but you will have their pictures.

Cap, i agree, a sign does alot,I have heard it is a 33% deterrant, after that, if they are stupid enough to enter, they will not like what they find staring at them when they come in and then they will get exited out the door backwards and violently. My suggestion to those that choose to break in and steal is dont even try it, it is not worth it.

If you can't afford an alarm/security system, I suggest for a few dollars you can purchase a yard sign that advertises that the house is protected by a security system. You can get them online and they are a good deterrent.

I suggest an alarm system on the house. And also, please close the garage door(s), if you have one. Neighbors look out for neighbors.
