The section at the top of the mountain is scheduled to be repaired/replaced during the Spring/Summer of 2014. The entire project was detailed in several SG articles. The "reason" for the whole project was to make this stretch of US Route 15 safer by installing barriers to prevent cross-over accidents. Route 15 from Route 54 to Beiter's has a notorious reputation for being one of the deadliest stretches in PA. I applaud PennDot for the improvements thus far.

I had a chance to travel that road a couple times in the last couple weeks. I think they did a very nice job. I like the fact that the lanes are wider. I also think it is a big improvement where they blasted away part of the mountain on the big curve at the top.

Yes, this road was improved because there were many accidents and there was one beautiful young woman, Kelly Mertes, who was killed by a drunk driver on this stretch of road.

Went past there last weekend. I notice the scenic outlook area seemed to be ready for use again. I thought it was to be permanently closed. Anybody out there have any info about that. It used to be a nice place to view the vista of the river and the city...until it became a hazard to access and exit the turn-off.

Lest we forget, I believe the whole intent of the project was to improve safety, especially near the Penn Dot staging area where my good friend was killed several years ago.

I drive that section 2x daily, everyday. It is more than rails and blacktop. They revamped the drainage route for that whole section making it safer during storms and spring thaw. I think they did a fantastic job and I commend them.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole reason for this "make work" project. I seem to have missed all the avalanches on the roadway to justify the removal of part of mountain, by blasting yet. Two years of construction for new guide rails and pavement.

These projects never end.

The waste is astounding.

That is where the new toll booth will be located. Time to buy the toll tag for your vehicle.

A pothole starting in the middle of a road? We need to direct this to the pothole action steering committee ASAP. These potholes can spread like wildfire if left untreated.
