Thanks CM Reeder. I didn't know that about the Jehovah Witness religion and when I googled it, I learned something I never knew---it makes sense, too. In fact, it is because they believe in "God" that they won't pledge allegiance to anything but HIM. I'm not sure which building is being referenced but what is the Center on Campbell street current being used for??? I know this won't win my any popularity contest but MD church would be perfect!!!

Having had a family member rent space in that building, and having been in there more times than I can count, I can tell you that building is in NO shape to support any type of administrative offices. I believe the cost of renovating to spec would be more costly than to rent spaces to accomplish this support.

what's the harm in saying the pledge and just having those who do not want to mention the word God just listen? Why do the schools have to bow down to a minority of someone whom I suspect really is NOT offended! I would be offended to have my grand kids leave it out of their day but my feelings do not seem to matter.

The building is in a perfect location. Every building is for sale, it just depends on the price.

Maybe the city could buy it as the letter suggests.

Yes, our children are taught to question religion, patriotism, capitalism, and respect for authority.

But our children are never taught to question government.

The part of the oath that is found in the one taken by cadets at the Air Force academy was added years after the founding of the academy, none of the other military academies has that phrase in their oaths. After the recent scandals, investigations and firings at the academy along with objections from groups both religious and non religious the phrase was dropped from the oath and returned to the original oath.

The building in question is not owned by the city but by a private entity. The saluting the flag is because of religion. Specifically the Jehovah Witness religion. Which contradicts your statements about the nons and the religious in this country.
