Mfross, thank you. You are correct regarding his dignity. It's just very hard to stay positive when you are so closely involved with it. I pray for all the families and those afflicted with this terrible disease.

I currently care for an end-stage Alzheimer's patient and I agree it is devastating to all involved. Cap1, I believe to lose dignity you must VOLUNTARILY surrender it. I bet your father fought for every inch of every mile..no dignity lost there..that is telling this disease "go f#** yourself. Sorry your family had to live thru that ordeal.

My father passed away last year after a very long battle with Alzheimer's. It has to be one of the hardest diseases not only for the one suffering from it, but also the family. My dad lost his dignity having to watch his son dress him and change his diapers and we had to watch our father's brain slowly deteriorate until he was nothing more than a vegetable. I still pray everyday that they find a cure for this nasty disease.
