In poor taste

December 14, 2013

Today's headline might sell a lot of papers, but it is in very poor taste on several levels. The “knock-out game” is not a game....

"See:

The Knockout Game Myth and its Racist Roots"

Reading fairy tales again John or whomever you may be. Why did we not know you would jump on this. Talk about being in denial? If this had been white on black, well....we wouldn't be having this conversation without trying we conservatives for carrying our cards for the K K K.

"Conservatives argue that racism is behind us."

I'm not certain I've heard one conservative poster on this forum ever state that racism is behind us. What they do state, and rightfully so is that he/she is not racist and that the continued accusation that we are is getting old. Only a fool would deny racism doesn't exist. On the other hand, only a fool would continue to espouse, all is not well in the blk/wht community. Quit glorifying it, when it does occur, and don't borrow trouble where it isn't.

I have conservative and liberal friends in real life. There are smart liberals and smart conservatives. My mom's family is all conservative. Dad's side is liberal. Dad's side is more educated and financially successful. Mom's side is more blue-collar. I respect both and believe they each have a right to believe what they want to believe. Again, it should be seen as a difference in philosophy. One side isn't "dumb". Just a difference in how they interpret evidence.

Conservatives argue that racism is behind us. That it doesn't exist. Liberals want to argue that it is alive and well and will jump on any vase that may prove their point. Ultimately, it is a difference in philosophy. The interpretation of events like Trayvon is guided by these philosophies. Truth is that both sides should be listened to.

The statistics show that violent crime mostly stays within the same race. Black on black, crime is higher than black on white crime. For some odd reason people are more likely to be violent towards those of the same race. None of the explanations I've researched for this make any sense. It's just the way the world is.

"Gee that must mean that conservatives are elated that is racially motivated"

No, only liberals rejoice when the news is about racism. Just look how you fabricated Trayvon Martin, Twanna Brawley and all the fabricated gay attacks, like the waitress who was given no tip for being gay.

Yes, it is liberals who jump on stories of racism too quickly and get their faces covered with egg repeatedly.

Is it any wonder your side keeps getting caught lying?

Liberals are deathly afraid that the "knockout game" is racially motivated.

You can see this in their posts here and repeated denials despite evidence to the contrary.

I have a KO game app on my phone so I get practice for it in real life. Seriously though, the SG is in it to sell papers. Sales may pick up even though the rest of the media and the internet finished talking about it weeks ago. I doubt the KO game takes hold in luck county. Everybody drives

Ya' gotta quite listening to those "voices" (in your head). "They're" seriously jerkin'-you-around, this time.

You need to "ask your doctor" about Thorazine.

Yeah...sure...that's what's going-on....

*

"What goes mostly unspoken in these commentaries on the “knockout game” is the idea that these assaults are racially motivated and so white people should be wary of groups of black men. Some take this further and blame the “liberal media” for the violence, since the media allegedly hid the “truth” about the race of the criminals. If only the media would tell us when black people attack white people, we’d know to not trust them and we’d be safe, the logic goes."

"There is a fine line between making the public aware of a dangerous situation and giving fresh ideas to thugs on ways to harm us for their own "entertainment"." - Donna Ochs Maule

C'mon...c'mon...I'm fairly-certain newspapers are reporting after-the-fact, rather than "giving fresh ideas to thugs". If newspapers ARE the "cause", we sould (probably) keep-an-eye on the S-G columnist/friend-o'-"thugs" who'd launched this "game".

I believe the Sun-Gazette wrote that story to inform and raise awareness to this "game". Good for the Sun-Gazette! Folks need to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Also keep in mind that at this time of year burglaries, car break-ins, armed robberies and other acts of theft seem to increase.

Perhaps we could discourage this behavior by making the punishment fit the crime. How about letting the victim, once he or she recovers, clobber the thug once upside the head, with whatever is handy.

I saw a photo on line of a loser who tried to use a stun gun on his victim, but the victim fought back and shot the thug, but just wounded him. He had a big grin on his face, sitting there wearing his prison orange jumpsuit. It made me sick to think he was amused by this! And he had been shot to boot! How to you really punish someone like that?

Relax Donna, at least the SG is calling it like it is. Many communities are refusing to admit that this new "game" is even taking place out of political correctness. I agree that this is no "game", but the public needs to be warned that this is happening in our city, just like it is across the nation. Simply reporting it as an assault as they initially did, would not get the message across. We read about assaults all the time. I would be willing to bet as a result of that article, many took the advice and started to become more aware of their surroundings.
