December 15, 2013

Superintendents of school districts are like the CEOs of businesses and, as such, need to be paid well for districts to attract the kind of “quality” people needed for the job, say school board......

Superintendent receiving this raise is an obstruction of logic and school justice. The Southern Tioga School District Administration, needs to have someone come in and clean house. Someone with a little rationale, compared to Yarger. The guy is a joke.

I am seriously tired of hearing that to "attract quality" large payroll is required. That is Fortune 500 mentality that has filtered into places it should not. Fewer administrators or ones more interested in putting money into the actual education rather their pocket would be refreshing.

Did you know that Williamsport graduated more National Merritt Scholars than any other school in our county? Bassman Did you know Williamsport graduates between 450-500 kids a year vs. the rest of the SD's wich avg. around 100. Makes it easier to graduate the most when you are 4 times larger than others.

@TheMoe: I have to disagree with you. Tenure does not mean you can not be fired. Under the law a teacher with tenure can be fired after receiving 2 unsatisfactory evaluations from an administrator. Also with the new teacher evaluation model, based on the work of Charlotte Danielson, combined with the new state evaluation model, teachers are judged on student performance.

Teachers can be fired for a multitude of reasons. Tenure just means a teacher can not be fired without just cause. What we need is good, high quality administrators in our schools willing to put the time into the evaluations. To get those individuals you need to PAY THEM!

Did you know that Williamsport graduated more National Merritt Scholars than any other school in our county? Did you also know that almost 60% of the students at WAHS come from poverty? I find that fact AMAZING and sad all at the same time.

That's Bull !! They don't attract the best anything. The teachers here seek parody with the pay of 1st class cities when they don't even come close to the problems of big schools. The majority of students that graduate from WAHS are under educated and about 2 steps up from Zombies. The system has a lot of dead weight in the teacher dept. If the union would stop the tenure status and dismiss instructors for poor performance, that's how you get quality in the class room; not by the, supposed, celebrity of some second rate administrator.

I say in this area if they are not happy with already making over $100,000 we don't need them...send them packing. They def. are not worth more than $100,000 a year as a Superintendent. That is ridiculous.
