The blame game

December 31, 2013

Interesting how the Tea Party Republicans get blamed for the increase in flood insurance rates by a recent contributor, fact is the bill was cowritten by Judy Biggert, a Republican who is no longer......

If Mim Logue attended any of the meetings on this held locally, she would realize they have admitted and are looking to repeal. This was not passed by two people - this was passed across the board in the House. This should never have been voted on until FEMA had done the affordability and fesibility study that was requested of them prior to enactment. It was never done (obviously) and is completely unsustainable as they are all aware. The only answer is a repeal and I believe that FEMA should be dismantled entirely, with disaster funds being sent directly to the states involved and disbursement is done on a state level.

In answer to Don Farrar's writing, FEMA was to do a study prior to enacting the law. No study was done and no-one knew any amounts prior to the vote. It should never have been voted on until that was available by anyone. This act will affect EVERYONE - not just people who will have to walk from their homes and turn them over to the bank. Taxes will go up for everyone to make up the fewer homeowners. Banks will be affected - the entire market. People better get involved because otherwise they will all foot the bill...not just people who are affected directly.

There was a vote to rescind this law as Congresswoman Waters even admitted " causing unforseen hardship"but our(R)Senator Pat Toomey voted to stop the vote, Now people are having 10,000$ flood policies force placed by their banks. This law will not only take down the housing market, taxing bodies but also the banking industry.Oh Yeah, the repubs will probably give the banks a bailout!!

People may also not be aware that the maps that have been issued by FEMA and which are being used by insurers and homeowners in order to decide who is required to purchase flood insurance have been found to be riddled with errors that are now causing individuals who are at no real risk of flooding to have to buy.

See: Flood insurance purchased unnecessarily due to faulty FEMA zone maps

Enigma, the flood insurance program was completely self sustaining until FEMA started giving policy holders money to people who were not in the plan.

This is something no one is talking about. Why?

Have to agree with Eric--Liberals are Liars--especially the Republicans and Tea Party jerks. Talk like conservatives , but never argue for Gov't mandated abortions or for euthanasia of Old people that are warehoused and collecting SSI. And how about launching one of those 35,000 Nukes that my taxes bought.

The problem isn't the new law. It was the original flood insurance law, which was really just welfare for flood plain property owners. Now that FEMA can no longer afford that welfare program, it is more painful to those who have become dependent on it. The federal insurance destroyed private flood insurance and can no longer continue. Government has no place in the insurance business.

Shaman I have to laugh at how shallow you are in thinking that all NASCAR fans belong to one party. I have plenty of liberal friends and family members that enjoy the races. You really need to get some new and relevant material.

President Barack Obama’s decision to authorize lethal aid to Syrian rebels marks a deepening of U.S. involvement in the two-year civil war.

Obama Increased Foreign Aid 80%; Spent 76% More on Foreign Aid Than Border Security In fiscal 2011, according to the statement, it spent $20.599 billion—an increase of $9.172 billion, or 80 percent, from 2008.

By the end of August, after the first eleven months of fiscal 2012, the federal government had already spent $20.058 on foreign aid in that fiscal year. Included, among other things, in the $20.599 billion spent on foreign aid last year. $5.322 billion for the Foreign Military Financing Program

Money well spent. This is pocket change.

No thanks. NASCAR-fans' need for a carnage-"booster" (in addition to all the carnage they encourage, overseas), never made a whole-lotta-sense to those-of-us in the civilized-world.

You might be a liberal if…

¦you think occupy Wall Street protesters are sane but Tea Partiers are nuts ¦you abhor censorship unless it’s censoring race, religion, Conservatism, Western culture or Rush Limbaugh ¦you think having a picture of Jesus on school property is dangerous, but having a ****** machine is not ¦you think the phrase “separation of Church and State” is in the constitution. ¦you despise the rich even though they pay your share of the taxes ¦you would rather have a free phone than a job

Fredzz-"Erik, When you say "" Liberals are liars. "",are you saying All liberals or only liberals...?? Also.. are you implying that Conservatives Never Lie...??"

Fred, I think 1st you have to establish the definition of 'lie'. Too many times a difference of opinion in ideological theory is called a lie by it's opposition.

A lie is a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.

Using the definition of lie, both sides tell lies at times. 'If you like your health plan (or Doctor), you will be able to keep your health plan (or Doctor), PERIOD!', was and is a lie, as was the claim by conservatives that death panels would be set up to deny treatment to seniors.

Yes, both sides lie.

When will we come to realize that what ever the government has it hands in is a financial train wreck? From social security to FEMA they are just robbing Peter to pay Paul. That is why there is no money to back these programs. We are to busy giving the monies away to foreign aid that we have nothing to aid our own.
