I see no-one has quoted the State/Federal laws regarding Tenants/Landloards ruling which states under What circumstances can a Landlord can evict, what process the Landlord has to go through to do so, What the Tenants must do. When a Tenant rents a house or Apartment they are responsible to keep the home clean, pay the rent(if you can't, talk to the Landlord) and be responsible for what happens in the home, legally or not. Time for people to stop thinking that everything is about "ME"!

Streetmachine I agree the eviction process is wrong. When a tenant is evicted it shouldn't take 6 months or more to get a tenant out and receive no rent the whole time. I could take him to court for the rent owed but in reality I'll never see any of it so what's the point? I am still cleaning out from my former tenant because he abandoned his stuff all at my expense.

All of us renters and landlords need to get together find a good a lawyer and let the higher courts decide on how to handle this they need to either repeal this on there own (city)or have head to the higher courts as we all know. They (city)is breaking a lots of laws. Just in the eviction process. Also violtating. Peoples rights. Insant until provine guilty is just one. If you rent your autmaticly a criminal now according to god gabe

Mr.Hilfirty since you commented the readers might as well have the truth your rent wasn't current it hadn't been paid for 3 months and you were put out for excessive hoarding. How is that the landlords fault?

Kimberly Carol Hilfirty is actually the sister of John Hilfirty, and they both live in the same place.

Further more, Jack (as he is known on the street) Hilfirty is also the infamous MrShaman, who never has anything nice to say.

That's because he's a broken, never had, never will have 70's something and an absolute taker of everything from the government. In short, a BUM!!

Codes was able to do what I wasn't by putting my tenant out. Eviction process had been started and rent had not been paid in 3 months. He was put out for violations which he caused which I was not aware of. Time of year or a persons age should make no difference if they caused the violations.Tired of hearing how tenants have no rights a tenant can live in a place without paying rent for months until the eviction process is followed by the landlord.

radioactive, " enigma. liable? or libel?"

I have it right, maybe you should look them up, but since you don't seem to be up to the whole dictionary thing, I'll help.

liable: legally responsible

libel: defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures

Once again, by thinking you know everything, you have made a fool of yourself.

radioactive:

You would think the city would be responsible if something happens due to a know code violation.

But our government is immune from its own failures.

We see this over and over, under both Republicans and Democrats.

That is why it is best to keep government small and out of our lives.

"One does not need a law degree to see that what the city is doing is wrong."

And one does not need an English degree to see that it should have been "Who's to Blame", not "Whose to Blame". Poor grammar aside, there is more to this subject than meets the eye. If the city knows that an apartment is not up to code, and allows someone to live in it anyway, and something happens, the city is liable. We have our own litigious nature to blame for these actions.

Thank you for saying tenants have some responsibility in this.

Instead, those writing letters are acting as if they have a right to cheap, high-quality housing.

Try asking to see a Certificate of Inspection. I assume most read and sign a lease. Leases contain Tenant and Landlord obligations. If Codes compliance isn't listed under Landlord, ask the Landlord to do so. If they refuse, look elsewhere. Tenants have responsibility also. 70 is neither ancient nor indicative of any infirmity . Personal responsibility. Read the lease.

Jerry:

Williamsport's law re: rentals applies ONLY to protect the landlord.

Codes throwing people in their seventies, whose rent is current, out on the street in January, - high temp 17 degrees and snowing, - no rooms available anywhere in the area, with the assistance of the city police, the Office of the Aging, and many others.

It's hard to believe, right?

Well, it's true. It really happened right here in Williamsport!

And it can still happen again!

The equal protection clause doesn't apply here, I guess.
