MECURY2, I have George's card he has helped my husband on numerous occasions with questions he had about benefits, the Dental was added to CHAMPVA as of January 1, 2014, I am not aware of any cuts to the program.

SilverFeather: Has the VA (President Obama) cut your husband's retirement payment ("for what we seen"),what does that mean?

Silverfeather: Look at it this way,if you don't need a "wartime" military population then the need of additional personel is not necessary. When I came back from Vietnam in '69, I was offered what they called "early out" program because Nixon started pulling people out of Vietnam. I was a radio operator in the Marine Corps and stateside we were a "dime a dozen" (to many)when we came back. At that time the Marines had more than double the personnel that is normally around 375,000 in peace time but,was at around 750,000 at that time. Do you see where I'm going with this comment?

I'm a little confused on why the President would want to take benefits from veterans, doesn't make sense. It's like stealing someone's wheel chair. -MERCURY2

Do you have your head in a bucket. He would and does harm our military. Refusing to honor the flag and so on.

MECURY2, I have the CHAMPVA, I think it has something to do with adding Dental Care that you would have to pay Metlife or some other company a monthly cost to join, but I have other insurance for that but hey more information is always helpful so still let me know okay.

BornHere: I'm also 100% (Vietnam vet)and the only thing I have heard of was something to do with,I believe they call it "Champa" not sure of the spelling. I guess this something to do with a veterans spouse's health insurance but, not 100% sure of that part. I was going to see George today but, the courthouse was closed down for a bomb threat and his office is in the next building but, I stayed away. I'll let you know if I find out anything on this issue of loosing benefits (Monday).I'm a little confused on why the President would want to take benefits from veterans, doesn't make sense. It's like stealing someone's wheel chair.

MERCURY2, my husband is rated 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran and we have received nothing about a decrease for the future, in fact he actually got an increase for 2014, but maybe you should talk with George because your situation might be different than my husbands, please let me know what you find out, thank you.

Bornhere: I have been receiving benefits for about 18 years from the VA and federal government (I guess I'm one of the 47%) but, I haven't lost any benefits so far and have talked to the people at the VA hospital benefit advisory dept. and no where is there a cut in benefits that they now or in the future know of. I will stop and talk to George and see what the VA benefit advisor is missing. I'll let you know once I get the information. I'll also talk to my Vietnam veterans counselor. I'm glad you brought this to my attention.

"If I could recommend a Mark Wahlburg flick I would suggest TED it's hilarious an not another depressing war movie. I've seen Full Metal Jacket it's really the only war flick worth seeing." - Yoxtheimer

So...you're INTO War...just not "depressing war movies", huh??

Maybe you'd find reality a lot-more-"exciting".

Try these books:

"A Rumor of War" - by Philip Caputo

&

"Soldier" - by Lt. Col. Anthony B. Herbert

Yox, I didn't threaten anyone. I just "wrote some bad words".

But seriously your posts shows that you are provoking a response and I replied. So I guess were both guilty of using bad judgment.

I am the wife of a retired Army MSG and my son is active Air Force intel. From what we've seen, they are cutting my husbands retirement and they are cutting bonuses for those who re-enlist. The bonus cutting is not a good thing and I'll tell you why. If my son decides not to re-enlist in four years, they must retrain another inexperienced person to do his job. The re-enlistment bonus with the cut in 1/2 would be $45,000. down from $90,000. Cost to retrain a person $120,000. As far as the retired Veterans are concerned, only the ones who worked will see a cut in pay, officers will not. Anytime my husband (an NCO) was saluted and called "Sir" he'd kindly tell the lower ranked soldiers "Don't call me sir, I work for a living!"

farmer, a quick search on the repeal of the "Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act", April 15, 2013, you will find that congress has, in fact, exempted themselves from inside trading laws and are allowed to do we we cannot. Also, there is nothing new about the Industrial/Government Complex profiting from war. Smedley Butler wrote a book entitled "War is a Racket" which spells it out nicely. Gen George A. Custer also speaks of it in his book "My Life on the Plains". Both books are available for free download from various sources on the net.

eriklatranyi:I'm not being disrepectful to the gentlemen's article, my comment is why does the President's name always has a way of getting in to an article about thanking veterans? My comment was about the negative comment in the article "President Obama should see this movie" because "WHY"? Now take it from there.
