Great letter Tony, not only should we support this program but we should demand that all correction institutions include rehabilitation for drug and alcohol abuse and mental health treatment during incarceration.

Schools need to start teaching children how to handle their thoughts/feelings at an early age so they do not seek substances that mask those thoughts/feelings.

Frankly, we do a poor job discussing such matters at all.

It is cheaper to prevent people from falling into substance abuse than it is to rehab them.

No Spigotz, I think Eric is right here. Unfortunately, we live in an age where often the home life is not what we would hope for our children. You can not change how a parent raises their children, so if we are ever going to break the cycle, maybe we need to ask more from our schools. No matter where a child learns these life lessons, they must indeed learn them. As Eric said,"It is cheaper to prevent people from falling into substance abuse than it is to rehab them."
