First, the LTE uses average and median in ways that can confuse.

But, the point is sound.....Williamsport has a higher than average crime rate.

Police already focus resources on higher crime areas. This is not a new idea.

Robberies are crimes of opportunity that are not easily prevented with more patrols. As Texas said, roaches move away from the lights and the criminals would just go where patrols are lighter.

The sad part is that there are members of our community who know who the majority of criminals are.

It is sad that they do not come forward to help clean up Williamsport.

But, as we have seen, we are falling into the inner city mentality of "us" versus "them".

Type in "2135" in the Williamsport S/G search engine and you will find many hits to various people (and violations) that have lived at the same W. Third Street address going back for a number of years. Of course not all "2135" hits are the same address.

If someone wanted to build a database with all the different incidences/offenses from the warm and comfort of their home just using S/G reports, you could identify these hot spots pretty easily.

There are two maps.

The first is where are the crimes taking place.

The second is where do the people arrested for those crimes live.

Overlay the two maps and you have the main area to patrol.

Interesting letter. Tex, you are correct about the roaches. So, I am waiting for someone to shoot one of these turds. Maybe that will have some effect.
