The same argument

Myron, there is no constitutional right to vote. There is a constitutional right to bear arms. We are required to show ID to buy a gun. Why is it not too burdensome to show an ID and go through background checks to buy a gun and get a permit to carry the gun that is afforded under the constitution but it is a burden to show an ID at the polling place for something that is not guaranteed under the constitution?

I believe your argument is completely backwards.

I wonder if this country switches to universal healthcare and an ID is required by all, if anyone will object to it then?

I am an adovocate of the second amendment and do not have a problem with showing ID to get a permit. I think you should have to show an ID to vote also.

You need a photo ID now to participate in Obamacare for eligibility and subsidies. You need a photo ID to get SS benefits, Medicaid, Medicare or just get treatment at a hospital to protect against fraud.

So I ask, do these disenfranchised voters have no healthcare?

I doubt it.

How amusing...the pro-gun folks being more-fearful of a vote...than a .223 "round"!!!

@Capricorn1 - I wondered that too. I had some minor medical issues last year, and had to show photo ID at the hospital before my procedure. What happens now that medical insurance is mandatory under the ACA, and someone goes to the hospital for treatment, and is asked for photo ID to prove they are who they are?

This is a serious question - I'm just wondering how the hospital would deal with that.

The Amendments to the Constitution of the United States guarantee citizens many rights.

Your first sentence voided your argument. You think that you should not have to show an ID to vote, but how do you know that person voting is a citizen? By your 'logic', you don't have to prove anything in order to vote, so therefore you shouldn't have to prove anything to participate in other rights mentioned in the constitution, such as gun ownership, as others have said here.

As to your claim that nobody has proven that voter fraud has happened, it seems to me that words spoken at the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings - "The nature of the evidence is irrelevant; it's the seriousness of the charge that matters." should apply here as well.

Let the courts decide. I find it odd that the voter ID laws are largely driven by republicans. As for guns? That is for another day as I have recently lost two people I know to guns. Ban them for all I care.

How 'bout we get all "21st Century" with voter-ID, and...rather-than relying on the added-cost of photo-ID cards...we adopt thumb-print technology? Before you sign-in, to vote, you'd be required to have your thumb-print scanned/verified.

Showing ID to vote is one of the only things you don't have to show ID for. Can't even buy sudafed without showing a valid ID, but as long as the Dems want to cheat in elections, we will never need ID to vote. They might lose if they require ID. Another great example of our double standard in this country.

Rick, three people died in a Maryland mall yesterday in what was a gun free zone. The guy got a shotgun in there for God's sake! I just can't understand the logic of gun free zones. Time and again these shootings happen in these "safe" areas. How many people have to die before you libs get the point--these safe zones don't work and banning stuff doesn't work (drugs, guns, speeding, cheating on your spouse, giving alcohol to minors, etc., etc., etc.) and none of it works. Oh, but some people feel good and that is worth it.

Rick, I hope your comment about being chipped was sarcasm. If not, that is a very scary proposition. Talk about losing freedoms.

The Obama Administration can’t even get the Heath Care WEBSITE to work. And you want them to go high tech. Wait until someone who knows what they are doing gets into office before we get carried away

Great! Another shooter who thinks the answer to his problem lies in the barrel of gun and you all want to protect that right. Make sure you don't use your phone in the movie theater someone with gun will think they have a right to shoot you.

Since they did indeed succeed in blocking PA's voter ID law. Looking forward to your lawsuit for gun buyers.

Too many guns Nobud, The shotgun was purchased legally though some loophole in the Maryland gun law. Safe zone or not safe zone doesn't make a difference. You can still carry a gun concealed and use it at your will. You may not understand my logic but I sure do not understand yours. I am in the minority I know and I don't really care. We need to get guns under control in this country.

Rick- guns are controlled in this country. Guns aren't killers, people are. Chips at birth? ban all guns? Liberals should be banned and chipped at birth so we (reasonable people) know who you are. Voter ID laws, well after Acorn, and the IRS what do you expect Rick. Would Obama even be the President? If it is good for you libs all is good other than that you have no tolerance. You and the Dems are the radicals here.

Guns are not controlled in this country they are in the hands of human beings, you know the same ones who do the killing. BTW guns don't have rights.

Blah, blah, blah. Guns are not the killers. Tired of that argument. There are too many guns available in this country. It needs to be controlled and regulated.
