Linda,

Just like ObamaCare, whatever everyone wants, everyone gets. Even the Sisters of the Poor want abortive services according to our federal government and their employer has to pay for it.

Perhaps instead of worrying so much about what criminals need or want while in the system we should concentrate on two things. One, we should make prison a place nobody ever wants to go--make it harsh, make it uncomfortable, make it unpleasant and make no accommodations for any religion, personal orientation, race or any other reason. Everyone gets the same of everything. Two, we should take those who want to be rehabilitated and demonstrate a desire to be part of normal society and give them the education and training needed to be that. However, if you slip up, back to the rest of the scum. We are too lenient and give too much to those who only will take more given the opportunity. I'm all for a second chance, but that's it. No third, fourth,….

It costs $24,000 to support a prisoner behind bars, yet the US poverty line for a family of 4 is only $23,050. Food in prison is actually better than food served in public schools. Think about it, we're feeding our rapists and murderers better meals than our own children. We are basically sending prisoners to a private resort. A prisoner should not have these privileges. Prison is supposed to be a form of punishment, not a home away from home.

When the government, lawyers and operators of prisons no longer profit, then you will see a change. Why correct a problem with society when you can make money off of it.

Guess who is making money keeping people incarcerated, private companies that are running prisons. Prisons are not money makers for government in the US it is in countries like China where it is source of cheap or free labor.

Why do we do it? It is called being humane, some however see it as perks.

How cruel of all of you. These "criminals" are victims of a heartless and racist society. So what if they live better than some of the population? They have to put up with gang activity, restricted drug use, and peer pressure; Not to mention "Peaches", your favorite cell-mate. Really, society did this to them and all they were trying to do is survive in a repressive environment.

North40, so you can guiltlessly lose your humanity in the treatment of them behind bars. Then you are no different than those you committed to prison.
