"We are seeing more and more incidents where this law is not being used as intended." - CMReeder

I don't know what the surprise is here. Individuals are going to use whatever defense they can to get out of a crime, and as in most cases, this one will not let him off the hook either. There were to many other witnesses in the theater, this guy will be going to jail.

Let's just make one thing clear, guns and stand your ground laws don't kill people. People kill people.

Chuck, stand your ground laws is just another variance of self defense which is a legal tactic that has been around forever. If FL didn't have stand your ground laws, this man probably would have just claimed self defense. He's been charged and a jury of his peers will sort it out. I think your intent here was more to voice your disdain for guns in general and you used this shooting to incite outrage. I don't blame you, it's something liberals have been programmed to do.

Typical chucky talking out his and voicing where his head is. How's come you left out the guy was hit in the face with a bag of popcorn? Have you already decided his fate? If so I guess we need no trial. I'm not saying the guy is innocent by no means but the only facts we have are what they want us to hear. Shame on you. Oh how we can feel sorry the fellow was just texting his babysitter about his sick child it's even more sorry he didn't stay home to care for his sick child. So I wish for one thing chuck please I'll give you money for the movie ticket. So chuck please don't just post some of the facts the ones you want to as you may mislead someone who hasn't followed the story, oh that's right that's how your type gets followers.

A perfect demonstration of how dumb liberals really are:

Blame the gun. Blame the "stand your ground" law.

Excuse the perpetrator.

Liberal stupidity on display, folks!

If ya whanna go somewhere you can shoot someone an claim a dubious self defense it's Florida. That state is gun Heaven! -Yoxtheimer

Actually the state of Florida has a 24% gun ownership, making it the 41st state in the nation. Those pesky facts sure do get in the way, don't they?

Chuck, he will be tried and if this "defense" stands then the prosecution will be at fault, not the law or the gun.

Cap, why do you want to cloud up a perfectly good rant against gun ownership with facts? Don't you know that facts don't matter, the only thing that matters is how you feel about something. Good lord I want to puke.

Another example of liberal stupidity, blaming an object for the actions of a human!!!

I suppose if Curtis Reeves did not have a gun in the first place Chad Oulson would be alive today. Think about that. That bag of popcorn was a real threat and justifies killing someone. Talk about making me puke. Go ahead and justify your guns and make excuses to have them. I will just sit back and be amused by the stupid. Cheers.

"I suppose if Curtis Reeves did not have a gun in the first place Chad Oulson would be alive today." - rick424

You know Rick, that same argument can be used on any number of rights. If people wouldn't have sex, then they wouldn't need an abortion.

I always find it interesting how the same argument can be interchanged between gun control and abortion. A right is a right, and stay the "f" away from mine. If you don't like it, to bad.

rick424, you've been doing an awful lot of puking in the past two days. You had better get the fluids in you or risk becoming dehydrated.

Tell that to Chad Oulson's daughter when she grows up. Too many guns in this country and it is out of control. You know what? I really don't care what you think either. I am just amused by radical pro gun people, Their logic amasses me.

In the meantime the man who was shot is not going home to his daughter. But we are not going to prevent that from happening.

It was a person with a gun against a person with a cell phone. Stand your ground is being misused. It turns a person with guns into a bully, a dangerous bully.

Lives are being lost with stand your ground laws. People think they can take the law into their own hands because they have stand your ground law behind them backing them up.

A gun no more makes a person a bully than violent video games do. If a person is a bully, that trait was already there before they bought the gun.

Chuck, This guy will not get away with using stand your ground. He is going to prison for the rest of his life. As you said, he did not stand his ground, he murdered a man. The law is not being misused, because it won't protect him. His attempted use of the stand your ground defense is as misguided as your attempted us of this incident to impugn the law.

Rick, I don't think anyone here is justifying what this man did. IMO he committed murder and neither stand your ground nor self defense will be successful for this case in court. This is not the type of behavior that is protected under stand your ground or self defense. Also, whether you accept it or not, short of the total ban on all firearms, no gun legislation that is not already on the books could have prevented this.
