January 29, 2014

I live on Forrest St. in South Williamsport. Several times a week we do not receive our mail until 7 or 8 at night. Only a government-run agency could get away with service this pitiful....

BillTriumph: You are correct but, the difference is that the USPS goes to every address in the country about everyday(no Sundays)and UPS and FEDEX only delivers to address that have a delivery. There's your difference in the labor and administrative cost and also UPS doesn't have delivers on Sat. or Sunday normally.

I don't get it. The USPS cost of labor and administrative is way higher than UPS or FedEx so USPS should be the most efficient service provider on the planet. Or does cost somehow correlate to waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency? What?

Though subsidized by the US Gov't, the US post office is no more "Federal" than Federal Express.. it is an independent agency...

eriklatranyi: So, what you're saying is, the USPS delivers the mail late on purpose, right? Why? "Government incompetence is not limited to the USPS"? If you are trying to compare government incompetence (apples to apples), let's start with the TEA PARTY, that's a given!

This will be addressed after one of these fine letter carriers is mugged or worse some evening delivering mail in the dark.

The gov can't open mail (without legal backing) while it is a gov provided service. They want to destroy it and have the people demand it go to a public run service. Then the NSA can open every single stinking piece of mail you receive

Zippie, I think you have won the "stupidest comment of the day" award.

I don't hear the Kentucky-residents doing a whole-lotta-complaining...but, they didn't sit-around (like PA-residents/Governor)...waiting for the Federal Government to babysit them... -Shaman

I would imagine they aren't complaining since taxpayers are picking of the tab for the majority of those that enrolled.

Here is a little secret no one knows about, THE USPS is broke, money wise! Where can you put a piece of paper in a box and for 49 cents someone will deliver it 3,000 miles away? Not bad for 49 cents. The USPS gets no or very little money from the Federal government, they're on their own. Maybe we can get Domino's to deliver the mail in 30 minutes or less! I'm not mocking the article, I'm just trying to put a little "commonsense" in to the article.

So...you're saying an increased minimum-wage will have no impact on this scenario, huh? Wow. Have you ever considered a career as an online-"psychic"?

It's not myself who'd "painted you into a corner".

You'd managed that, all by yourself.

Personally, I would agree to the once a week mail delivery. My bills are mostly paperless. The only thing I get in my mail regularly is the Web Weekly which I can do without, coupons/colored inserts that I do not want at all, credit card offers, etc.

Most of the packages that are delivered to my home come from UPS and I have never had a problem with them.

I live in Montoursville. I have been receiving my mail around 11AM for years and nothing changed after Wmspt. was shut down. A few months ago, a small pkg. was sent to us from VA and it took two days to arrive. My compliments to the USPS. Thanks
