Thinking a higher minimum wage stimulates the economy is like taking money out of your left pocket and putting it in your right and then declaring I made money with the transaction. Its a politicians illusion yet in today's day and age after seeing this same trick being done time and time again without improving any ones standard of living, a new generation of gullible victims believe it. It only keeps the ones promising this trick in power. Why do you think this is a standard play from the Democratic party??? They dont care about you, they want to stay in power and pull the strings. Before the internet and freedom of information it was easier to pull off but its a obvious shill game. Our education is truly failing us.

Where do you think the extended unemployment money comes from???

Another option would be a more generous earned-income tax credit. This would provide more support for the working poor and would be pro-business at the same time.

"The minimum wage increase will not only help struggling families make ends meet in a difficult economic environment, it will also spur economic growth. Low- to middle-income individuals have a higher “marginal propensity to consume” than high earners, meaning they are more likely to immediately spend any additional pay than other income groups. This will further boost consumption and GDP, which is especially important given that weak consumer demand is the primary constraint in this slow and fragile recovery." From the EPI

So, up till now, governments and central banks worldwide have cut interest rates and printed money. It ended up having the effect of bidding up stocks. The end result has been this very long ongoing recovery.

Poor people spend their money IN the economy. They don't, rather they can't, use it to build up assets.

Just as we get hit with the ACA and lose jobs and hours and benefits, here we go again "with lets have another hit on jobs" by reducing any profit left in the employers accounts. In this ruined economy, what makes anyone think employers have ANY liquidity in their businesses anymore? More people will lose their jobs because of this next boondoggle. Get the gov't OUT of American business and let market forces work.... that's what built this great economy, not gov't regulation.

Awww, poor President Obama....those nasty Tea Party folks won't let him get everything he wants!

More whining from the liberal sycophants who loved it when Nancy Pelosi became Speaker of the House while Bush43 was president.

Liberal hypocrisy on display, folks!

"Raising minimum wage just gives people a incentive not to work."

Please tell me how you back that statement.

70% of the economy is driven by consumer spending. That's one reason why Pres. Bush asked us to continue to shop when we started the war in Afghanistan.

If the minimum wage is increased, the people making this wage will have more money to spend.

IMO - I don't see it happening with this Congress. But maybe instead of increasing the minimum wage to $10, go for $8.50 and start adjusting with a COLA each year.

Obama has had 5 years of free reign. He owns this mess and his blame game card has run out of scapegoats.

Raising minimum wage just gives people a incentive not to work. Wouldn't the more educated goal be to get more people off unemployment??? Why does this Democrats pander so much like this??? Pull the drowning victims up onto the boat instead of throwing more life savers and then act like its a compassionate fix.

You know it's funny when republicans and Tea Party members who are making minimum wage agree with their parties that raising the minimum wage is a bad thing. It's like telling your boss,"No I don't need a raise"!!?? Nothing like shooting youself in the foot! One more thing boss, "I don't need no health care either"! The President wants to give you a raise and also affordable healthcare but, that would mean I would have to agree with the President and I'm not going to !!??

It's a wonder that anything the President put on the "table" that the Tea Party wasn't there to put a STOP to it! Just read the facts and follow the paper trail. I'm sure the right has all the facts on what they turned their backs to trying as hard as they can to discredit this President. Anyone out there in the Tea Party tell me everything the Tea Party agreed on (passed bills)in the past five years,it shouldn't take long. You can have all the 'Polls" you want but, the American people aren't stupid! I can't wait till this next election, this will prove my point. I live in the "red zone" so I'm not expecting anything that is positive about what I just replied with in my comment but, let it fly!

Is Casey reflecting the wishes of all Pennsylvanians or just being a mind-numbed-robot for the tyrant. Any Senator who gives a standing "O" to a president when he says you are not needed (Congress), isn't working for the good people of the Commonwealth.
