Saving gun rights

February 12, 2014

When I observed law-abiding gun owners lining up in Connecticut to register their legal firearms with their Subduers, it reminded me of the videos, "Auschwitz", and "The Nazis," a warning from......

Conflating the Nazi regime with gun registration...BRILLIANT! Let's try a dose of reality for a change shall we? If you are a 'law abiding' citizen gun owner and have no intention of breaking any laws with your guns, then what's the problem?

We register our vehicles that we use every day, I don't think registering your weapons will set the universe on edge. If you're a paranoid gun loving citizen then just disregard everything I've written and hug your weapons a little tighter after all, the government is coming for them...right?

Capricorn1: I see you are a "cherry picker" but, tell me where in my comment I said the word,"EVERYBODY" but,79%,that's a pretty good percentage! I have a question for you, did you ever hear of the TEA PARTY before 2007? If you want to think back in time when you voted and remember voting for a candidate that was on the TEA PARTY TICKET, I can't? I think I speak for many, why is the GOP (REPUBLICANS)allowing the TEA PARTY to destroy their party? Us,democrats are just shaking our heads!I see you have a BTW percentage scale, what about other ethnic groups example Asians? I guess you're 'neutral' being an Independent but, you sure know a lot about the TEA PARTY and "saddle up" with them!Again,I say, let's get back to the gun crap.

Mercury, you hit no nerve. I've said all I need to say on this subject. Nothing would change the fact that you see a racist in every conservative and it's attitudes like yours that tears down race relations. BTW, I'm an Independent, are we all racists too because there are now more of us than both Republicans and Democrats. Oh and BTW, 79% of the tea party is white. Blacks and Hispanics make up the majority of the rest. And remember, this is coming from a country that is only 12% black. But you hang on to that liberal thinking regarding those racist tea partiers. Enjoy your weekend.

Capricorn1: What,Have you been living in the "stone age"? It's a known fact but,I guess you can't spot "bigotry" in Congress and nothing gets done and it ain't because President Obama is a democrat!! People with any commonsense knows this part. You can call it anything you want but, stupidity doesn't trump commonsense! At the next big TEA PARTY rally take a head count and see the amount of "white and black" voters that are in the crowd. Any guesses? Why am I even replying to your comment??!! Let's get back to the gun crap.

This says it all....If everyone owned a gun, ANY gun..Criminals would think twice about doing crimes period. Would you try to hold up a business knowing everyone in the place was armed? NO. Switzerland trails behind only the U.S, Yemen and Serbia in the number of guns per capita; between 2.3 million and 4.5 million military and private firearms are estimated to be in circulation in a country of only 8 million people. Yet, despite the prevalence of guns, the violent-crime rate is low: government figures show about 0.5 gun homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010. By comparison, the U.S rate in the same year was about 5 firearm killings per 100,000 people, according to a 2011 U.N. report. The politicians who don't want you to have a gun should have their armed guards removed! If we don't need guns neither do they!!

Sounds like you are using the race card to me. And btw, I disapprove of both his black and white side as a leader of this country. People like you that judge all conservatives as racist merely have no other argument to support the weakness of this administration.

"This gun crap is not about guns,it's people out there who hate the President because he is black in color, period!"

I do not call him Dumbama because he is black. I despise his refusing to enforce ALL laws, to obey the Constitution, for his constant harping on race, for his attitude toward our military, for his casual attitude on spending, for the unaffordable ACA, for the loss of health insurance for multi-millions, for the destruction of millions of jobs, for being the Liar-in-Chief, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc..

He is only PART black. He is ALL idiot!

It's time for liberals to quit using racism when they can't find any other defense of this jerk! Try telling the truth.

I got an idea. Let's make a law and call it the "Responsibility Law". If I break into your house and steal your "lock and loaded" gun and go kill someone with it,and get caught with it,then you go to jail also for allowing me to get your gun? "No foul,no harm" and the 2nd amendment remains intact.Criminals wouldn't have guns, right? Oops, I forgot about the NRA!

Gobb62: "Insanity"? I don't know all the wording in the 2nd Ammendment but, does it say anywhere in the ammendment that a "criminal" can't own a gun? Remember, we are only talking about the 2nd Ammendment and nothing more ie: Federal government. Isn't this what the NRA is all about, making sure EVERYONE can have a gun, period? If you are a felon you can't own a gun.Doesn't that go against what the NRA is saying, everyone has the right to bear arms? No,I'm not saying in that comment you are referring to that I think criminals should be allowed to have guns,I was just making a point! Ok,Lawyer up on me.

Capricorn1: Why would as you put it,"the race card"even be used in an article about guns? If you are referring to my saying "Here comes the Obama crap again" I was just making a statement that anytime the Tea Party doesn't like what the President is trying to do,which isn't that often,DUH!,you think it's racial but,I know a lot of people I run into and they can't seem to say Obama without the word 'black' not being mentioned in their comment.Just to finsh,we both know most GOP,TEA PARTY doesn't like the President because he is black and if you say I'm wrong, then you're just "Blowing smoke up everyone's a**!The "race card" has only been used in the Presidential office politics since 2008, funny, this is when President Obama took office! To be fair, let's call it the "race card".

Thank you very much for the reply, it did(at least to me)seem a little out of character for you, but it did give me an excellent opportunity to voice my opinion. Truth be told, some "gun owners" embarrass me--IMO, they by their words make a good case for anti gun people. Some IMO, seem to be fanatical in their opinions...But the same can be said of the other side. I do support the 2nd Amendment, but it needs to dealt with in an mature adult manner. Again thanks for the reply- Have a safe & happy day/night-Scott OH by the way, I am also white, as you said, if that means anything.

USABorn,

I looked up the info you posted. Allegations by Jim Garrow, & not very convincing considering that these types of charges were made in 2003, & 1995. From the small research I did I also found out that he claims that Obama.(You know the man whom has been going to the same Christian church for years) is also going to declare Sharia Law. Sorry, but from what I saw, along with its "sources", they are less than convincing--at least to me. But thanks again for the link.-Scott

Hey Eric, got some bad news for ya....

The Federal Appeals Court just struck down California's restrictive concealed carry gun law as unconstitutional. I guess they didn't hear your convincing argument (roll eyes here) on the 'well regulated' issue.

Lawlor, the undersecretary for criminal justice policy in the state Office of Policy and Management, also suggested that the legislature should reopen the registration period to encourage more gun owners to register their firearms.

You may recall the viral photo of Connecticut gun owners waiting in line to register their guns in December, which one person said reminded them of the “Weimar Germany.”

Republican state Sen. Tony Guglielmo told The Courant he recently spoke to a constituent at a meeting in Ashford, who informed him that some of his friends with semi-automatic rifles are intentionally taking a stand. theblazeDOTcom/stories/2014/02/13/tens-of-thousands-of-connecticut-gun-owners-may-be-staging-a-massive-act-of-civil-disobedience/

At roughly 50,000 applications, officials estimate that as little as 15 percent of the covered semi-automatic rifles have actually been registered with the state. “No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps as high as 350,000,” the report states.

Needless to say, officials and some lawmakers are stunned.

Due to the new gun control bill passed in April, likely at least 20,000 individual people — possibly as many as 100,000 — are now in direct violation of the law for refusing to register their guns. As we noted above, that act is now a Class D Felony.

Mike Lawlor, “the state’s top official in criminal justice,” suggested maybe the firearms unit in Connecticut could “sent them a letter.” However, he said an aggressive push to prosecute gun owners in the state is not going to happen at this point.
