wineandcheese, not saying you aren't having a tough time, but 1600 in rent? You can buy a really nice house and have the taxes taken out and pay the heat and electric for less than that. I would say look into it. That is a ton of money. Good luck.

No one was voted out last election, they all walked away Ofutm2. Makes one wonder why, just like why 4 resigned in Southern Tioga last month. County wide consolidation needed now.

UP this up that! Seriously it's getting where it's becoming so hard to keep a roof over your family's head anymore. Not everyone has a six figure salary, nor can everyone have those jobs or there's be no one to run the stores and other places that make this world go round. The crime rate will continue to go up when you take from families and they can't afford to take care of the kids and homes. But I guess that's over looked when you can buy 200.00$ plates. My husband bust his butt everyday 7 days a week and it's only getting harder with greedy landlords and prices in taxes and food going up what do you do when your pushed where your losing things you need to go to work or get your kids when they are sick. It's a horrible feeling when your kid is sick and you can't afford the co pay, because you had to pay 1600.00 in rent not including your bills and trans to and from work, insurance. Its really becoming heart breaking anymore.

Why would anyone buy a house in Williamsport with taxes so high? Once the baby boomers start retiring in masses, I imagine they will want to move out of this overtaxed city. Then where's your revenue stream?

Yes, County wide consolidation will cut down on a lot of overhead; 8 top salaries, benefits and retirements. Local districts are consolidating buildings and downsizing because enrollment is decreasing. Look at the big pitcure folks.

If only we could cut all the fat. I am not sure how much there is to cut in any one district. Add to that that there are lots of calls from parents for music, sports, pre and after school programs, remedial classes, advanced classes, field trips, and on and on and you can see that this will be a tug of war. Not sure who will win, but you can bet the other side will be grousing. Instead of every community griping about their district, why don't you all band together to get one county district that is more efficient? 8 districts combined into one with one set of administrators would be way more efficient and less costly. That is the key but I'm not sure too many want to give up their little districts.

Cut the spending, balance the budget and cut out the fat. The school dist is out of control. How long can they keep thinking the taxpayers can handle these increases. it's getting time for a taxpayer revolt

Is this becoming a trend? Looks as though the Southern Tioga School District is in a pickle too. Their Lycoming County taxpayers could pay an additional $145.00 on every $100,000.00 of assessed value. When is the County going to resume that assessment? They should have consolidated last year, I bet that new board will now.

Add that extra 44 peer/100,000 to what they already get. The school is already close to 50% of the City Taxes. We get multiple services from the city and absolutely nothing from the District.
