"I have no problems with cuts to the DOD, however, let's start with the waste and abuse within defense contracts and revamp the entire program so that it provides more oversight of these contracts and penalizes these companies instead of rewarding them for the billions in cost overruns." - Capricorn1

I have no problems with cuts to the DOD, however, let's start with the waste and abuse within defense contracts and revamp the entire program so that it provides more oversight of these contracts and penalizes these companies instead of rewarding them for the billions in cost overruns. They have begun this process on some contracts but they need to make it contract wide throughout government. Reducing manning levels to the degree which they plan is dangerous unless the leaders making the decisions also reduce the missions for the remaining force. Otherwise this force will be stretched thin and deployed constantly, putting an enormous strain on capabilities. Just because we may not be at war does not mean the deployments and training stops in order to maintain force readiness.

Yeah, butting heads really works well and George W. Bush taught us that with his asinine war in Iraq. So $500 BILLION or more defense budget still isn't enough? Are you people crazy? The US is flushing its treasure down the toilet. Didn't your parents teach you to discuss rather than be the first to punch another?

What...this is one MORE effort towards "allowing the marketplace to regulate itself"????
