Rupaul: "Does this person really think the Olympic teams are tax-payer funded? This whole tea party, "not on my dime" mentality that permeates the ignorant and uninformed is really out of control."

Lord knows I'm no fan of the Tea Party, but Rupaul, I think your a bit out of line with that statement. No actually, it's a really dumb statement, I'll leave it at that.

As to the letter, & funding for the athletes, Many products advertise that they "Proudly support the Olympics". One that comes to mind for me is Folgers Coffee--They were giving out coasters with the purchase of the larger can. These athletes deserve our support, they make me proud of them all in the way they represent our Country.-Scott

. So maybe those anti- tea party people have the mentality that permeates the ignorant and uninformed that is really out of control.-premier

This part-"mentality that permeates the ignorant and uninformed that is really out of control" is usually taken care of in full detail from 12-3pm, on the "EIB" station. Then continued on other various "programs".-Scott

I think the fact that four people agreed with the troll indicates a "mentality that permeates the ignorant and uninformed that is really out of control."

I didn't see the word "tax-payer" or "tea party" in this LTE. I did see a question. So maybe those anti- tea party people have the mentality that permeates the ignorant and uninformed that is really out of control.

Olympic athletes are mostly privately funded. Plus, sports are good for character and society. They help keep people away from drugs and alcohol

Mr. Reeder:

I agree and did not mean to leave that part out.

The fact remains that our team is usually one of the best funded, due to generosity and sponsorships.

"US Olympic teams have always been the envy of the world precisely because they are so well funded by private donations and corporate sponsorship."

That is not why they are envied. It is their innovations, talent, drive and spirit that is envied.

You all left out an important factor. The amount of time and resources an athlete's family and the athletes themselves spend to get to the Olympics. They are devoted deeply to a sport they love. They truly do exemplify the Olympic spirit.

I think the cost is dramatically less than a Presidential date night.

Steelman Mar-05-14 7:23 AM****"I thought they have been over for 2 weeks now. Am I missing something?"

This is the approx. amount of time from letter submission to publication, sometimes shorter, rarely longer.

US Olympic teams have always been the envy of the world precisely because they are so well funded by private donations and corporate sponsorship.

This gives our athletes the most technologically advanced training facilities, equipment and coaches in the world.

Are you looking for the cost to the athletes, USOC, or taxpayers?

The US Olympic team and the athletes that compete are not directly tax payer funded, nor is their travel. Most of the money comes from sponsorship's and philanthropic donations.
