Change of heart needed

March 11, 2014

I am concerned that my previous letter on history repeating itself has evolved into a debate on gun control. It has nothing to do with gun control, but heart control....

You can kill someone with a ball-point pen. I guess we should start legalizing fully automatic weapons now, it won't make any difference.

I'm a little-more concerned about the whole "evil eye" trip. I'm familiar with all the others, but never gave much thought to defensive-efforts from the "evil eye".

Are Polarized sun-glasses an option?

I guess when you have absolutely no facts regarding gun control and violence, you have no choice but to post nonsense. The letter writer is correct. Until you figure out why so many place no value in their fellow man, you will never stop the violence no matter how many feel good laws you pass.

So its all or nothing. If you can't stop all gun violence in one fell swoop, what's the point in doing background checks?

A pen and a phone can create lawlessness. At least we have the courts to keep it in balance.

First of all, this is the best laugh I've had in a long time! I distinctly remember reading in the bible the story of the serial stoner with a bag full of stones going in to the temple and throwing one after another in rapid succession killing 21 people! Now onto the Nazi's! That was NOT "A" (singular) serial killer, that was an entire military! You're comparing apples and broccoli here. Yes, sick people will find a way to kill multiple people at a time, but it's so much easier for them do succeed with an AR-15 or an AK-47. They are meant for killing mass amounts of people in a war zone and we don't need them to hunt for our meals or to protect ourselves. If you're that bad a shot, go to the range with your 9mm or 45 and practice up.

I love how the article specifically says “It has nothing to do with gun control, but heart control..………… John Otto” And the very first comment “I guess we should start legalizing fully automatic weapons now………………AmericanCitizen ” is about gun control. People have such one-track minds.

“Stoner with a bag full of stones” “You're comparing apples and broccoli here” “gun raffles in churches” The write is giving examples! As he states it does not matter what weapon you use it is the mind/heart of the person that does the killing. Weapons are not the issue, until we change internally there will be consequences externally.

Steelman, you are never going to convince the anti-gun crowd that blaming the instrument of the crime does nothing to stop the violence. In case anyone hasn't noticed, as divorce rates and illegitimacy rates climbed in this country, so has things such as drug addiction, crime, incarceration and violence. Respect, responsibility and discipline are all things I was taught early in life, as were my kids. As the breakdown of families continues, so does the supervision and guidance of our youth; resulting in more and more people that turn to drugs and crime as a way of life. Solve those problems and it will have a much bigger impact than any kind of gun control.

Exactly. The LAST thing right-wingers want to deal-with are any-and-all "gray"-areas. If they can convince everyone-ELSE that one extreme (or, the other), are their ONLY options...it saves the right-wingers from the "troublesome"-process of (actually) thinking-things-thru...and, maintaining their reliance on "absolutes".

Mr. Otto I have to ask how much the heart has been changed in the people who advocate the use of guns and the proliferation of them? People who claim they have Jesus in their hearts kill other people they also own guns or a lot of them.

Capricorn1 it is okay to have easy access to weapons. So you would also advocate that women and children remain in an abusive relationship in order to keep the 'family' together.

In the Va Tech Shooting, Cho used two firearms during the attacks: a .22-caliber Walther P22 semi-automatic handgun and a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock 19 handgun. 35 dead, 17 wounded. Should we ban all handguns too?

Human nature is such that some will do evil things and emotional or mental illness will do the same; that’s why we have the rule of law to protect us. That is if the laws are enforced.

Of course not Chuck, and I never implied as much. But, the facts are what they are regarding the breakdown of families. As far as I know, you are not born a violent person. You are a product of your environment and that environment begins at home.
