Teach your children

March 23, 2014

In CSNY’s classic song “Teach your children”, there is a line, “...and feed them on your dream “ The Obama administration is feeding our children on dreams all right — with a nightmare to come....

"no disrespect rmiller but your digression is getting stranger. no more questions for you "

OK., johnny...

I had to snicker at your comments :) and I'll do so without snickering...I only know my personal feelings are as follows: I don't want, never did want, nor will I ever want govt. teaching my child/grand children. I'm not digressing,,,hope this helps.

I'll give it to you...the one post is a bit edgy where comprehension is somewhat unclear! At least you didn't go off on some tangent and was nice about pointing out to me that my "concussion moment was showing! :)

I'm beginning to think one of the requirements to be in the GOP aka: Tea Party you have to smoke "crack"! If you want to talk about the education system in PA.,first ask Gov. Corbett why he is cutting revenue for public schools! It's always the President's fault no matter what it is or about. Let's blame him for Pearl Harbor, the Titanic was sunk by the President or you stub your toe, that da* President did it. God help you people but, if He doesn't guess what "it's President Obama's fault!" I could have made this comment shorter by just saying,"BULLS*IT"!

johnnyad3,

Somewhere along the line in these posts someone spoke to the veracity of preK being an end all to ignorance. I guess when I digressed, I was recalling a moment in time when abortion/homosexuality teaching was trying to get a stranglehold on our babes. That was then, I can only imagine what they are being taught now...

I think, as a parent, it's important to teach your child right from wrong. Teach your child good manners, help to encourage their education, and let them know it's okay to have dreams. But more so, I think it's important to teach them to strive to achieve those dreams. All a parent should want out of their child is for them to be a good person. If you're truly relying on the government to teach your child for you...you're doing it wrong imo.

Born-I'm glad for your daughter and her achievements. I'm sure your involvement helped too.

However, your one example has not convinced me one iota.

rmiller-I disagree with your view of preK and then after that...I'm not sure where you wanted to go when you digressed unless it was just to vent.

When do you think most people attain wisdom?

"All I know is I sent my kid to pre-school and I believe that foundation is the reason his education culminated with his Masters of Science degree. There is no one out there that can convince me that preK/pre-school is "horse hokey"."

My 2 sons went to kindergarten, my daughter didn't. Their "pre-school" education came from Mom.

A master in science? While my boys went to college, my daughter has an Associates in Applied Science as a Rad Tech, Bachelor of Science ln Biology Pre-Med with majors in biology and Spanish, and a minor in chemistry, and 4 credits short of one in math. She has a DMD and won 12 awards when she graduated Temple Dental School. And it sure didn't take sending her to school while still a baby to do it. Pre-school is more about free baby-sitting then anything! Tax dollars that should be going to K-12!!!!

" There is no one out there that can convince me that preK/pre-school is "horse hokey". "

Interesting concept, knowledge is not wisdom. Now, wisdom can't be attained without knowledge, but knowledge does not automatically assume wisdom. PreK.....way too early. My child went to Kindergarten because I wanted to give him an advantage. Yeah....and one time on a Golden Strip Pro-Life Rally, supporters for Pro Choice were parading up and down the strip trying to enlist recruits to "teach" our children about homosexuality? Give me a break...apparently, there were so many complaints that the concept was pushed on the back burner. But, I digress..that was over twenty years ago.

"Seems this has been the norm since man started teaching it's offspring"

Worded just like a liberal...my child is not offspring and the terminology to be frank is offensive, please.

Good letter, Jon.

Indoctrination is the govt.'s aim, and the bull's eye is your child's mind.

Radio, are you sure you are not a teacher? Your last post is spot on and so is the pain associated with every "new" passing political administration. "This too shall pass", right onto another brilliant idea that will transpire in about 2-3 years.

Erik we saw what your idea of education is all about. Ended up filing multiple VALID complaints with the bureau of spec. ed in order just to get our child the help she needed. That was how the locals handled the problem. Then, they were caught lying to the bureau. That's the only way we were able to obtain help. You cannot rely on the corrupt local districts to give your child the help they need, must fight, and I mean fight to get it. Just because you pay your taxes, does not mean they will teach your child. Don't be afraid to fight. One tip for those who may be dealing with this, SAVE every shred of paper with a date on it and keep it filed. Don't throw anything away.

That'd be easier to believe, if the REST-of-us could view the track-record/accuracy of the "psychic" you're referencing.

Contrast Common Core with the example from the other LTE about visiting local businesses.

Which is better?

A one-size-fits-all curriculum that comes from bureaucrats in Washington DC or local control, with education tailored to the local culture?
