Ralph,I would suggest you tell your kid to "STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!" Government is just like a business, they have expenses to pay for, labor, building maint. and equipment. If it was free then more tax dollars will be used and no one likes that part, right?

All government services should charge at the point of service so people can see the waste, fraud and abuse embedded into the system.

(Agree) with Spike and those who realize the cost of paper isn't all thats involved in making a copy of something. There is a cost for the equipment, staff, electricity, heat, rent, and on and on. Today's copier costs just under the price of a new car. The paper is only one factor in the price... but the rest of us already knew that.

Let's not forget that this group of folks of which he speaks are well represented by both sides of the political spectrum.

Ralph, Maybe instead of complaining, you should thank the taxpayers who pay for the person making the copies. It's the government! If you had to pay the actual cost of reproducing those documents, it would be more than the 50 cents you're whining about. Thanks for the gratuitous military service reference. While I appreciate your service, it makes no difference in the validity of your opinion.

A. streetmachine, it's "our" not "are" B. If you think $.50 is expensive look to see what a law firm charges you for copies. C. They have been charging $.50 for at least ten years.

Ralph, it is not theft of services. That is when someone gets services and payment is not provided by the recipient. They charged what you thought was an excessive amount for their services. Copies aren't cheap, neither is the time for the person to do it. Next time have them sent electronically if possible and print your own.

Thanks USA Born; exactly. The cost isn't for the paper, it's for the person's time making the copy, the contract on the machine, supplies, etc. I remember years ago we had a color copier at work, and there was a sign reminding us it cost 20 cents per page to make a copy.

Also, depending on the contract, they could be paying a fee per copy.

You can buy a package of 500 sheets of paper for $3 to $4. What that 50 cents includes is the contract on the copy machine, and that is not cheap!!!!
