Healthcare reform

May 1, 2014

After a bitter fight, the huge healthcare bill was eventually passed with a largely partisan vote in a House and Senate controlled by one party and signed into law by a president of the same party....

SteelerFan: No, Your comment is the definition of "SPINNING the FACTS", and if you want to believe that was my intent, that's your choose. I'm not a "shy" person and if I wanted that comment to reflect anything about "race" I would have added that to the comment. One thing I don't understand,if the President is "black" in color and I'm 'white'in color and 'AGREE' with the President, how is the a race issue,it doesn't make sense!!

MRCURY2, you didn't have to SPECIFICALLY say race, but the implication was there, just like most left wingers trying to say the right is racist because we disagree with you.

It isn't that liberals aren't intelligent; it’s just that they know so much that isn't true and don’t want to know any different.......Underwood

Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn.

SteelerFan: No, You brought it up in your comment,I NEVER mention anything about "race" in my comment on "OBAMACARE"! It will be easy to fact-check, it's 13 comments back. Please write me the "quote" about "race" that I wrote. If I was a "racist bigot" why don't I agree with you? Let me answer that for you,I'm not!

There are still issues about the ACA in the courts. It's far from settled.

One big one is the fact that plans purchased through the federal exchange are not eligible for subsidies, yet those plans are being subsidized.

The bill states that subsidies can only be awarded through state exchanges but only 16 states have set up their own exchanges. And two of those (Maryland and Oregon) don't even work. This will be a critical SCOTUS decision this summer.

You lost Erik. How are liberials not intelligent? I think you have it wrong. Maybe we should call waterboarding a form of baptism for our Muslim friends. I really miss If I was in charge Palin and her witty comments while the audience hoots and hollers like this is the best thing they ever heard. Talk about intelligent. Golley I miss this.

The ACA is law of land just as global warming is "settled science"....this is how unintelligent liberals defend their failures....by trying to shut off debate.

It reveals the truth that, in reality, liberals do not believe in democracy, free speech, the rule of law or individual liberty.

Oh, and speaking of the law of the land, why is there such a different attitude regarding other laws that are arbitrarily dismissed because they are unpopular among liberals and this administration; such as immigration laws? I guess it's ok to pick and choose what laws we will actually support and enforce.

Really Tim? You want to trust politifact as a source? That's like taking investment advice from Bernie Maddoff. Why don't you try to do some research of your own? You might come off looking a little less goofy. But even if your "facts" were really facts, it makes no sense to try and justify a bank robbery by claiming you got away with stealing money from your mother's purse. Stop trying to be clever, it's not working for you.

I will ask again because I have yet to get an intelligent answer; if this law is such a success, why all the waivers and extensions until after elections, both 2014 and 2016 and why withhold actual statistics by this administration regarding age groups of those that enrolled and the actual number of those that were able to keep the insurance that they enrolled in by paying their premiums? Latest figures show that only 67% of those enrolled actually are paying their share of subsidized healthcare. The only numbers reported are the 8 million enrolled but that still leaves tens of millions that want nothing to do with it and millions more that are expected to lose their insurance once the arbitrary administration extensions expire after the elections. Oh, and btw, if the ACA is the law of the land then what gives this administration the right to arbitrarily make changes to the implementation of this law?

I was talking about "OBAMACARE" not because of a "race" issue you "dimwit bigot". Yes,WE do have a president that is "black"in color and I'm a commenter who's color is "WHITE"! Let's make a new rule, only "BLIND" people can vote! And one more thing, you "disagreers" I guess you like "agreeing" with a "bigot"! "God help you people"!

Organizations have been adapting to rising health insurance premiums for how many years now by offering higher costs to employees and with lesser coverage and higher deductible. Who was to blame then before Affordable Care Act? They are still to blame. Not the President or the Democratic Party who have now made it possible for someone who needs a doctor to see a doctor without discrimination.

God forbid someone with cancer be able to get to see a doctor now when before they couldn't because the underwriter didn't see a way to make money off that person's health. WTF. Or someone with diabetes, the flu, an ear infection. Oh you are female? Let's add to the reasons we won't cover you plus you might have children someday, better raise the premium now just in case. Give me a break.

Just because you may not like the Man, his party or his politics, doesn't mean He's to blame for a CEO or board of directors to profit from someone's well-being.

If we hid the premiums for health insurance into your iPhone service plan, I bet everyone would still have an iPhone.............ericwilliamsport

I would still have my iPhone, but don't think those who are sitting back collecting the free insurance I pay for would not have one as well.

I find it funny that large corporations and businesses are crying about how ACA is responsible for layoffs, change in coverage to, increased costs to employees.

If the ACA truly is causing all this, where was all their political influence then? If health insurance companies were going to be so "impacted" by this influx of 10+ million new subscribers... If the "mystery" of not being able to predict how much they will shell out for new enrollees because they can't deny (discriminate) based on pre-existing conditions increased the whole country's premiums... Why wasn't the insurance industry lobbying harder to protect you? What a joke. It wasn't bad for the health insurance industry.

Don't be duped by the industry inflating your premium and blaming politics and law for their greed.

Blame who you want.

The ACA is law. It is getting people health insurance who previously couldn't.

Arguments that it raised health insurance premiums are weak, they have been astronomically on the rise for over a decade.

Arguments that it is unconstitutional are no more right or wrong than taxes.

Complaints of "Now I have to get insurance or pay a fine for opting out.", don't carry much weight, states already require you to pay minimum car insurance, and banks require you to get increased insurance with increased premiums to finance through them. Where is your outcry for repealing auto insurance laws?

If we hid the premiums for health insurance into your iPhone service plan, I bet everyone would still have an iPhone.
