******: A bad illegal substance which is injected, snorted or smoked. Highly addictive. Is there some reason why people are doing this ??

Excellent post DocWoody.

The front page articles this entire week have been quite enlightening and I certainly hope they are a false representation of how things are ran and handled by elected professionals. I realize news of this type sells papers and makes someone money, BUT, it's NO GOOD! If I had to compare this to what 75% of the real problem is in todays world, it would read as follows. Dad and Mom are fighting, to busy doing their own thing, not respecting one another, all while the children run amuke. This is what pops into my head everytime I read nonsense like this. I hope this isn't the case

Make it a FAMILY DINNER night

As a Substance Abuse Prof. and a retired member of the Broward Commission on Substance Abuse(Ft Laud,I watch in amazement the 'steps' taking to combat drugs. Unless this 'summit' is getting FUNDING it's just another 'smoke screen' to the readers. The bottom line there is little to no funding to do what is required i.e. SA Prevention yearly 1st-12th grades in EVERY school. Environmental Strategies, Community Assessments, bring the Health Dept, ALL Local Law Enforcement, ER staff, SA Professionals, Drug Epidemiologists to the table and get a clear snapshot of the issue from all angles. LOOK at what cities WITH funding do. I shake my head as I read about these un-coordinated efforts that will only perpetuate the problem while accomplishing little. There are SO many cities that are effectively battling the same thing. The Task Forces need to reach out and/or research what strategies are effective in other cities, search for funding, get everyone to the table, etc. etc.
