Abuse of power

May 8, 2014

Taking down the basketball hoops in any city park is abuse of power! The city taxpayers, homeowners, renters, would rather have the youths playing basketball, taking in a Crosscutters game, having a......

First, I don't think the community feels it is racially motivated. Community is inclusive, meaning all the taxpayers have skin in this. Nothing was removed but a few hoops. Every other activity and area of the park is fully available. What I see is a few disgruntled folks, those who would protest any issue they felt could gain attention couched in the word racism. Others, purely are continuing their attention seeking behavior and are angry because they are no longer receiving funding. Antioch Church, the City and a few other groups have already begun working together to restore activities in multiple venues. It would be nice to see them receive more attention than those who simply have self-surviving agendas that most can see immediately.

Capricorn1, there is a sign in the park that says the park is closed from dusk to dawn, citing certain hours based on daylight savings time. The problem is there is no one to enforce it, just as people don't pay attention to nor enforce the posted ordinance directing dog owners to leash, curb and clean-up after their dogs.

People litter and shall continue to litter simply because They do not feel responsible for public areas like streets and parks. The more they Litter, the more it becomes a habit, and the worse Our community looks. Remember we are all responsible for keeping Our city clean. your Behavior does make a difference. Pass it on ....

Some say the mayor made a courageous decision, but it looks more like surrender to me.

So, I guess littering is ok even in the "park"? One positive thing is it's less that goes in the landfill!? If someone tells you (the mayor of a great city as Williamsport) not to put your hand on a hot stove and you do and get burnt, you were warned! Why do people litter in the first place?

Someone should tell Frank that ADD is treatable. Stupidity is a little more difficult, but can be overcome with effort.

This is not just about littering. They have other problems in this park and the community was warned last year. They vowed to do their part and never followed through. I also think the park needs to be closed from dusk to dawn.

I don't think anyone is saying its ok to litter anywhere. The point is it happens all over but the mayor just targets memorial park. That is why the community feels it is racially motiviated. I'm not saying it is but that is how it feels. The mayor doesn't work together with the people of the city he flexes his muscles and give the city people a spanking. Ridiculous

Some recent LTE's seem to condone littering; people are littering everywhere, so why isn't it ok to litter at the park?
