Well, technically what it's saying is that you're only free to judge if you're free of sin yourself -- and given that we're told to remove a "plank" from our own eye just to remove a "speck" from another's eye, it's implied that one has a serious amount of work to do on oneself before worrying about the affairs of others.

That aside, as far as making judgments based on facts, that makes perfect sense -- as long as we're not ignoring the fact is that there are no legal or ethical reasons why homosexuality is wrong. It's a moral objection based on a religious belief, and it's not even a belief held by all those who practice that religion.

Now THOSE are facts I can get behind.

I wish they would quote this in it's entirety.

"“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." --Matthew 7:1-5 (NIV)

It doesn't say to not make a judgement at all. It says to make sure that you have looked at your own heart and make sure that you have dealt with your own sin so that it doesn't cloud your judgement. Don't go pointing out others sin if others can point out your sin that could be equal or worse.

Our society makes judgements all the time; it should be based on facts and moral standa
