Offensive

May 29, 2014

In the Friday letters there is, what I think is, an ignorant and offensive letter concerning a picture of newly drafted NFL player Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend....

"That is a child's rhyme meant to be a taunt."

Taunt? Actually, it was just something little girls chanted while skipping rope. It started back in the days when I was a little girl and really was the way people lived.

Here is another rope skipping ditty....

Lizzie Bordon took an axe gave her mother 40 wacks and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41. Was that a taunt also?

"...(an NFL football player) can have a homosexual relationship and that it is normalcy."

And what other statistical minorities should we consider dangerously abnormal and forbidden to marry? Albinos? The deaf? People whose parents were both alcoholics?

And actually, you're right. All the groups I listed are technically "abnormal." The vast majority of people are NOT albinos or deaf or gay. So what? What right does that give the rest of us to prevent them from doing the same things we "normal" people do?

Furthermore - allowing gays to marry does absolutely nothing to affect the sustainability of the human race one way or the other. They're not going to be producing children whether they're married or not.

Also - tell me what's wrong with letting them adopt. I'd rather see a child loved and nurtured by a gay couple than abused or neglected by a straight couple.

Same old argument.

The same old response - Shall we forbid senior citizens from getting married because they can't produce offspring?

I beg to differ. It is more than that. It is an ideological statement that was thrust into the public spotlight to say that even the epitome of manly, strongmen of society (an NFL football player) can have a homosexual relationship and that it is normalcy.

But even with this, the childhood rhyme gets it right. The only natural way to sustain mankind and society is through the protection, love, commitment, nurturing family, ie, to be able to create new generations of human being(s) through the loving, committed relationship of marriage of a man and woman. The kiss is an affront to the natural family.

That is a child's rhyme meant to be a taunt.

It is a kiss, nothing more. Sheer lunacy from the creepy right wing.

"Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Then the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the Lord to serve other gods! It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled. And the Lord drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites, who lived in the land. We too will serve the Lord, because he is our God.” --Joshua 24:14-18

God is a holy, righteous, good, loving, patient, merciful and just God. He offers us eternal life if we follow him. He has created us in his image with a natural law implanted in our heart. He gives us the choice to follow him or follow man-made gods and our passions.

Many of the Old Testament tribes that you allude to were immoral societies that did worship various gods, goddesses, and themselves; they would even sacrifice their children and participate in various sexual immoralities to appease the gods to send rains and provide bountiful crops.

God wanted Israelites to start afresh in the promised land and not be easily persuaded and corrupted by these pagan practices and rituals so he wanted them wiped out. This also provided an example to future generations as to the consequences of following evil.
